I used to teach English at a small, non-profit high school. The books were recycled each year so the students didn't have to pay for their books. This meant that the workbook pages had to be photocopied before the students could use them. Quite humorously, on the bottom of each workbook page there was an box reading, impotently, "Do No Copy," but no legal warning whatsoever (probably because there couldn't be). It always got a good laugh out of me just because it was such a weak attempt to keep people from copying the pages.
I haven't read the lists, so this may have been covered, but I was recently thinking that, given all the blogs and websites that are "stealing" the news from the newspapers' sites, the newspapers could probably charge to build custom feeds (RSS, or perhaps otherwise) for bloggers/website owners. I myself would pay for this. The newspapers are often the first to get news, and they know how to get news about things that people like me could never do on our own. I would gladly pay a fee for the newspaper to send me a custom feed with all news related to certain topics, instead of having to scour dozens of feeds being sent to my RSS reader, 95% of whose content I can't use.
Yeah, I that District 9 debacle is pretty absurd. I wrote up an article about it on my website making the point that if they want people to be angry about it -- and if it really is as offensive as they claim it is -- they should ALLOW it to be played so that Nigerians have a reason to be angry. Instead, Nigeria becomes the bad guy by disallowing the theaters freedom to show the films they want to show. Sony and director Neill Blomkamp must be loving it.
I would like to know what hosting company that is: 1. reading a client's email, and 2. forcing him to remove content just because some random company told him he had to.
Yeah, this is pretty common. I got the Fallout 3 Collector's Edition, for example, which comes with a book of concept art, a bobblehead, and a making-of DVD, all in a tin lunchbox. A lot of companies do it.
Yes, the statement is true, but that's not what Mike is getting at. He's wanting to learn what artists PERSONALLY THINK about the RIAA, not what they are CONTRACTUALLY OBLIGATED to do.
Honestly, I don't know how you missed that. You're proving his point even more.
Mike, calling this ironic is like calling Albert Einstein a guy who owned clothes. I think the first word of the title to this article should be something more along the lines of "stupidity."
This is something that I don't get about the "scarce" aspect of RtB. The only way that "crystal ball" news is scarce is that it is artificially limited. Is there something truly scarce about this, or am I just the first genius to think about this?
I'm just saying, they had a planned release date for the trailer and wanted to stick to it. Still stupid, as I stated, but it's not the same as outright "Don't post our trailers on YouTube."
