I look forward to the day that everyone in public has a grenade in their pocket, and upon first sight of a cop, pulls the pin. They'd then be in possession of a deadman's switch for as long as they hold down the lever/handle.
However, you may as well assume that thief has been caught and charged or fired, and justice has been served.
Pics or it didn't happen.
You missed the "It's as good as you'll get these days." bit. We are seriously screwed with this situation as it is. We're entirely within the power of malicious individuals if they want to jerk us around. The worst is, these are just low-level TSA grunts or baggage handlers, not powerful agents of TLAs who're out to get us.
I was just offering him a platitude to help him sleep at night. Happy nightmares?
Who gets to be the arbiter of what's stupid and what's not?
It sounds to me like you're in need of an emperor or (benevolent?) tyrant, and it would be remiss of me not to mention I'm available. Anytime you're ready; no hurry. I can promise I'll only use my powers for good and I can guarantee it'll be a great improvement over what's going on now.
Yeah, that music was so important to them they sat on it for 50 years ...
As someone who's always despised that ridiculous nasal twang of Dylan's, I'm grateful. Please *do* keep sitting on it. How anyone could manage to bring themselves to enjoy his singing, I'll never know.
I'm aware he's a composer/poet and lyricist too, and others have done good things with that part of his work, but no, I don't want to hear him sing ever again.
Perhaps it is time to consider the truth that we are in less danger from passengers than "trusted" people who rarely face repercussions for their bad acts.
Well, as the story says, "... you know it's pretty easy to put stuff in as well." Imagine Muhammad Attah and his buddies getting jobs as baggage handlers (or TSA), then stuffing bombs into selected bags, all timed to go off simultaneously, or attached to cellphone actuated detonators.
With a bit of bombsight style acumen, they could rain down destruction on anything they fly over, along with passengers of course.
I think that phrase is far too charitable. With no-one challenging the gov't, and no-one speaking for the defence, and no-oversight on the court's decisions, this is not a court. It's a captured tribunal, merely a necessary bureaucratic hurdle.
Re: Re: Re: Re: How do we improve broadband outcomes?
... how do you make a sewn-up market competitve?
I thought Karl's answer to that was correct. The FCC ought to have 'em by the cojones. They were given their position in the market for a quid pro quo. Fine the pants off 'em until they start holding up their end of the bargain.
All monopolies are bad on principle ...
I *still* don't agree with that. There's nothing wrong with a natural monopoly. They get there by serving the customer better than any competitors could, and they do it without favors from legislators. The alternative is unnatural monopoly, and those are bad.
It's much quicker too. You don't even need training to do it.
On the other hand, the police do want us to respect them, and now it's going to take a lot of time and effort on their part for that to happen as things are going. They don't appear to be trained in, nor value, that skill anymore.
Let's flag as many people and give them absolutely as many messages as we can muster until they give up.
Sorry, it sounds cool but I can't help. I've just been invited to join a bunch of guys who're out to *take down a dictator* in Syria! Woohoo, what fun it'll be. I'll try to check in from time to time with progress reports.
Remember, if you aren't with them you might be against them ...
... and if you're with them (Ed Snowden) you might be against them ...
My Venn diagram says 100% of the population might be against them. Are we getting anywhere with this? I can't tell. It looks like we're back to square one.
People seem to forget that the residential internet access in the US is made up of well over a thousand ISPs. Not just Comcast/Verizon/At&t.
If that's true, where are they? The vast, vast majority of discussions I've seen (in multiple forums) are people who say they've got one, possibly two if they're lucky, option to choose from.
Is that number constant, rising, or falling, and how fast? In my case I have three options; two telcos and a cable provider. There's no small ISPs here like I used to use. They've been swallowed up by the big boys.
