That you people are so deluded as to think your trope actually comes off as believable, is hilarious."
You're overly aggressive responses and complete unwillingness to to debate with facts makes it quite clear that you are trying very hard to promote a position you don't even believe yourself. You simply sound like you're writing this stuff because you're being paid to push a message.
"But when it comes to music, most economic studies have concluded that piracy accounts for the vast majority or even entirety of the sales decline."
Correction: Most economic studies carried out by or for the record labels and their lobby groups have concluded that piracy accounts for the vast majority or even entirety of the sales decline.
Luckily, most economic studies carried out by independent parties, including the USG, have shown that claim to be completely false.
Re: anonymous commenters comments on registered commenters
"Of course the fact that I get to be called a coward for not registering is just another example of censorship brought about by peer pressure."
No, you're not censored at all. You get called a 'coward' because you won't use one consistent handle, even though you would still remain completely anonymous. This prevents others from putting your comments in the context of what you may have said earlier in a post or in a previous post. Not being willing to stand by what you've said earlier is, IMO, 'cowardly'.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Saw this clueless kneejerk coming.
"You and your type expect us to believe intelligent innovators like Bowie and Dylan accepted being raped and pimped."
No, we all know that Bowie and Dylan were among a few very successful drops in an oceans of musicians. We also know that the experiences of Bowie and Dylan are pretty irrelevant in a discussion about the modern music industry, and yet you keep bringing them up.
"That's the problem with Techdirt, it's all based on what you 'read' or 'heard', not what you experienced first hand."
So your comments are based on first-hand experience? Great, once you've told us who you are and what your experience is, you might have a chance of convincing Techdirt readers that things really are as you say. If you can't or won't do that, your comments will continue to sound like the self-serving defensive retorts of someone who fully understands how label deals are heavily weighted in favour of the labels' interests.
"The "masses" were not simply the minions residing in the Techdirt echo chamber."
If Techdirt is an echo chamber then surely Congress can only be described as a parrot cage, since it's members regularly and frequently repeat the false claims of lobby groups like MPAA and RIAA.
Sure it has. What do you think widespread copyright infringement is? The people are, in steadily growing numbers, rejecting copyright law by ignoring it. Copyright holders who benefit from copyright laws may not have rejected them, but they are somewhat outnumbered.
"You don't get to personally CHOOSE which laws you obey and which you don't."
Of course I do, and the government gets to choose to punish me if I do. Dumb statement.
"You get to vote at elections and have your say then."
Repeated once again for the slow: Democracy does not begin and end at elections.
"Secondly, I think you'd find most people agree parking meters benefit society."
I made no comment on parking meters, but since you ask, parking meters can benefit society, or they can be misused by those in power to society's detriment. Much like copyright law.
"The revolt against copyright is almost all content consumer lead. No surprise there."
No surprise at all, since copyright was supposed to be specifically for the benefit of consumers, but over the years has been twisted around to benefit only copyright holders. If laws don't benefit the public, they will be rejected, which was the whole point of the post.
"...but I do care about The Pirate Bay and Google making money from my work and not paying me... they're making money from my labor..."
Since you're adamant that The Pirate Bay and Google are making money from your work, prove it. Provide us with actual evidence of both or either of these companies actually making money off YOUR work. Put up or shut up.
"I don't care about record labels or the RIAA, I care about corporations profiting from MY WORK without MY CONSENT and offering NO COMPENSATION!"
First, what corporations?
Second, I promise you, yelling about what you think you should be entitled to, whether you deserve it or not, will not convince anyone to give you money. Thanks to technology we now only have to pay for music because we want to, not because we have to, and a big part of making that happen is making people like you. I hope your public personality is much more appealing than your anonymous coward one, for your sake.
From a quick look at Wiki, EMI appear to have around 400 artists/groups signed to them. They could've just given ~$25k to each of them instead of $10M to lawyers, and be able to truthfully claim they're "supporting artists" for a change. The net effect on piracy would've been the same.

"SOPA is needed to stop fire departments from buying faulty smoke detectors."
"SOPA is needed to stop people from being killed by fake drugs from Canada"
