"How Software Piracy In Developing Markets Creates New Customers"
Every country has developing markets - they're constantly evolving. Just because we may refer to first world markets as "Established" in some sense doesn't mean they should be treated any differently than developing markets in this sense.
The better place to do it would be a public google docs document, so that trolling/bad things can be reverted and as it allows hundreds if not thousands of edits to happen simultaneously.
reddit is just not a good place for that, and neither was that site used for crowdsourcing some other internet bill by Wyden.
I put up a review linking to this issue, and the original coverage on techdirt.
Here was my reply I received from yelp:
Hi there,
We're writing to let you know that we've removed your review of Casey Movers. Though we understand this business has received media attention due to recent events and that users may want to share their opinions, we hope you'll understand that Yelp reviews are not the place for matters outside of your own consumer experience. Our Content Guidelines (http://www.yelp.com/guidelines) make clear that reviews should focus on an actual customer experience, and we think this is an important requirement for keeping Yelp a useful site for consumer reviews.
Due to our guidelines, please note that we will not be accepting further postings from you for this listing.
Thanks for your understanding and for keeping our guidelines in mind as you continue to participate on Yelp.

the last part I can't even understand. What if I did do business with Casey Movers somehow? What if I do in the future?
lets take this context and transport it into any other argument, just to show how bad it is.
on building roads (capacity/infrastructure):
"people don't use the roads enough now, so we shouldn't build for more".
At what point does that even remotely make sense? I could point to the entirety of the US roads infrastructure where in some instances they do have that viewpoint, and if you ask any traffic engineer worth the title they will tell you that it's 100% the wrong view to have and represents why US road infrastructure *sucks*. It's not the only reason, but absolutely a part of it.
Additionally, if they really want to see people use high speed internet, they should start by *LETTING THEM*. UK caps on internet usage are abysmal, to say the least. They're as bad as US mobile internet cap usages in plenty of instances. Is it then a surprise people hoard the crap out of it?
likewise. I was literally on the cusp of ordering one before I had started to read about this stuff multiple weeks ago.
the long story short is that gaming forums have known how stupid this DRM is and are basically boycotting Razer products. I hope they realize what that means, since gaming represents 90% of their business.
how hard is it for people to realize that apple + microsoft are pretty much working in harmony at this point and even employing identical techniques here?
"A U.S. jury also found Samsung guilty of infringing on Apple's design and utility patents, awarding over one billion U.S. dollars in damages to Apple Inc."
Where they make a comment that isn't factually incorrect but is entirely misleading. Facebook and Oracle have been doing this too. Coincidence of the anti-google? Nope.
Do you think they're going to rewrite that statement when it gets overturned in the court or on appeal? Again, nope.
It amazes me that anyone would let a house committee make such blatant statements of protectionism without thinking about any form of the end result. Basically we are harming US companies by trying to attack overseas competitors. Do they not even understand the most basic aspects of intelligence?
This can do more harm to the US than it can to China, just by creating trade tension. How does anyone in these committees remain there?
So either there was an ambiguous directive given to the contractor, the contractor acted out on their own, or they were told to do this. The question is: which one?
I find the excuse of a contractor being quite questionable. While people usually ignore filters since they have other sources of internet access (thus nobody complains/cares), it's not likely that a contractor would have set up network filters from opendns/websense unless the USPTO runs entirely off contractors for IT - in which case someone had to be given direction to do so - just as someone was given direction to remove the filters.
I'm guessing there's a bit more to this story - I don't think it's likely a big deal, but I don't think the USPTO is being very forthcoming here.
in addition, when has der spiegel posted anything *directly referencing* the pirate party recently that is even remotely positive about pirate party? Everything is slanted to the "their falling apart/dying/etc". I suppose "neutral" at best.
referenced article title: "Support Wanes for Germany's Upstart Pirates " 8/24)
article title: "Pirate Party Keelhauled over Scruffy Outfits" 6/20)
article title: "Discontent Grows Within Pirate Party Ranks "
5/06)
article title: "German Pirate Party Attempts to Reinvent Politics " 4//25)
article title: "Pirate Politician Says Party 'Rising as Fast as Nazis'" 4/23)
article title: "Artists Turn Against Pirate Party" 4/20)
article title: "Is the Pirate Party Its Own Worst Enemy?" 3/28)
I don't see anything showing anything other than general disdain/anything even remotely supportive of the pirate party and neutral at best for articles that include pirate party in their title. It's like asking a publisher how they deal with piracy and the answer is "with DRM, of course!"
Putting them into parliament, as is their focus - will force the transparency they are pushing for. I think it reveals just how strongly they are supporting their views.
What will happen is anyone's guess but this sounds more like der spiegel trying to get a jab at the pirate party, mostly in denial.
Since when has an opinion poll/"research survey
anywhere reflected on anything realistic?
Lawsuit allegations: illegal interference with a business model.
The irony is that it's entirely possible the chinese company could produce something more functional than apple, since chinese cellphones tend to do exactly that in the first place.
does this guy really think fundamentally misleading the argument via a comic is somehow accurate? This is like a "self-congratulatory pat on the back for harming consumers"
By the first of the 6 panes it's already incorrect. They're implying that amazon's prices are below marginal cost, which they are not. The rest just falls after that.
Then again, he's a copyright/royalty guy, so it shouldn't be a surprise.
that's why they aren't going to fix any of the games they broke with existing DRM. This is just "going forward".
In short, ubisoft is dipping the most miniscule inch of their toe into "let's not treat our customers like crap" water, but in reality - they still think the customers are at fault for daring to want to buy their products and not be treated like pirates.
