You know, watching a man have a romantic dinner with his favorite pair of socks isn't nearly as entertaining as one might expect. Maybe it'll get better after they finish the word salad.
Remedial email security classes for everyone in government! Learn how not to be duped.
I've heard that security consultants from Sinon-Tek give some pretty pretty thorough lectures, with tons of in-depth coverage of electronic communication best practices.
David and I weren't talking about anything that specific. We were going for the fact that the appeals court rejected the government's argument that 'if the public knows or believes the government has the skill and/or technology to do something, then the government is free to apply that technique without warrants or even any regard to the Constitution.'
Example: Citizens know the FBI is probably pretty good at B&E. They also know the Agency must have high-tech wireless surveillance cameras. The FBI is free to hide cameras in everyone's bathrooms for no particular reason.
I'm sick of paying for PR & FOIA-duty PD employees. Secretaries too. Janitors. Mechanics. All of that wasted money could put more cops on the street.
As long as they can fix their own cars & sweep up. As far as records go, if they don't need to provide 'em to anyone then they won't have to generate any, anyway.
In fact, what's up with all those prosecutors and public defenders and judges? Cops can be trusted to decide who's guilty, especially with more of 'em on the street keeping us safe.
I got the impression that it meant the opposite -- that as long as we believe the government capable of doing something, we have no expectation of privacy from their doing it. They only have to get a warrant to use stuff nobody believes could actually exist... which would fall under some sort of 'national security' exception anyway.
Of course, it's kinda nice when they turn around and give you a 'tough assignment' for the week that can be completed with a ten-line Perl script. (Does anyone even use Perl anymore? I've been kinda distracted the past decade or so...)
My solution would be to simply email bomb every MP...
An automated extremism-removal system would've been activated by the word 'bomb' in your comment. This reply too, now that I think about it. Y'know, it'd be pretty hard to discuss what's filtered as extremism in a world that filters 'extremism'. Oppressive governments are kinda funny, sometimes; that is, when they're not crushing your spirit and any lingering shreds of hope you might have left for the world.
Tragically, it's not just random Rons on Twitter with this idea.
A Random Ron - Anyone who makes a comment related to the internet or any area of IT in which his/her estimate of scale is off by so many orders of magnitude that it makes you want to laugh your way to a brain aneurysm.
Hmm... well, collectively, we citizens do; perhaps the government could sue the government using taxpayer money, and pay the legal expenses and the awards using money generated by raising taxes. Of course, it'd save time & effort if the government just settled with itself before trial.
Just more evidence that it's perfectly safe to forgo robust oversight and let these trustworthy, button-down 'SIGINT Hacker Geniuses' dig through the the minute details of our personal lives in order to protect our freedoms from the threat of terrorism.
Deep hole you got yourself in there, ain't it? Word of advice: it's a bad idea to make a BS assertion on TD and then challenge someone's reply based on the assumption that neither they nor anyone else in the comments is an engineer. Don't really have the odds in your favor.
