"Just as I was hesitant to blame Lori Drew or Dharun Ravi for actions that were connected to later suicides of people they had taunted, it still feels wrong to say that the case itself led to his suicide, without more details."
I think there's a slight difference between a couple of teenagers "being mean on the internet" and the Federal Government of the United States using every dirty trick they can to make your life miserable, harassing you non-stop while trying to bankrupt you and put you behind bars for doing absolutely nothing wrong.
What you need is to make an automated system, where every search submitted by someone in the EU generates a phonecall to one of the bureaucrats in question (from a list at random, or rotating). Then, these Bureaucrats are informed that for Google to provide the best service possible, they have to choose which of the search results they should present. Then the Google Master Brain presents them with a menu.
"If you want to present users with www.techdirt.com, press 1"
"If you want to present users with www.gardentech.com, press 2"
"If you want to show users the page 'EU Bureaucrats are Douchebags', press 3"
"To repeat this list, press 5"
A lot of stores have long had the option of converting "gifts" to you to store credit.
When I made my wedding gift list, I opted for that, so I basically got a debit card with all that money instead of the things people thought they were gifting me.
You know, I always read that to punish those who abuse copyright by ignoring fair use, one has to prove that this abuse was willful, and thus those cases would go nowhere. Can't any of the information here be used to prove that this blatant disregard of fair use was malicious and willful? Since it was explained multiple times to them, and they *chose* to ignore it.
