For those like our AC here treating the UK like an American colony is just dandy.
Ha ha! The tables have turned! The UK must now pay tribute to the content king, Chris Dodd! And don't even THINK about staging the Thames DVD Party, because they own the idea of protesting via tossing symbolic items into a harbor, lake, river, or tributary.
Yeah, but you know, that brings up a good point. I know very little about UK's government, I *think* the Parliament is elected, yes? And while I assume that some UK politicians are bought and paid for, exactly how are the funds exchanging hands? Here in the US, the olde English word "bribe" is spelled c-a-m-p-a-i-g-n c-o-n-t-r-i-b-u-t-i-o-n.
All joking aside, this lady's comments *should* scare you. She is in a position of some power, she's clearly and deliberately painting a large group of people with a broad brush in a color that is designed to provoke a fearful emotional response, for no other reason than that they disagreed with her point of view. This is vile and is basically the equivalent of a modern day witch hunt.
1. Mike won't respond to your disingenuous insinuation that the TPP free trade agreement is not a free trade agreement, but is instead an executive agreement.
2. You post a bunch of malarkey to support your position.
3. You are incorrect.
So why are you outright ignoring that I have completely destroyed your position? But hey, I'll give you this much, you dug up two sources that mistakenly mischaracterized the TPP. Good job on that! But you plus those two are pretty unlikely to sway the rest of the world's factual understanding of the situation.
Dude, you are such a stupid piece of shit, and frankly I'm sick of reading your drivel. Do you not realize that even the links that YOU provided are arguing that if the TPP really IS an executive agreement, that it is illegal? No, you just want everyone to admit that it's an executive agreement, because that admission somehow furthers your keepers' interests.
Ok, I'll play your game. First, the USTR's own website classifies TPP as a free trade agreement. Second, in the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) on the TPP, in the third question, the USTR makes reference to the TPP as a "21st century trade agreement". Third, Ron Kirk himself is quoted as saying, "In the interim, you may be surprised to know that USTR has conducted the most, active outreach to all stakeholders relative to the TPP than in any FTA previously, including, the proposed disciplines on intellectual property." TPP is a free trade agreement in Ron Kirk's OWN WORDS. Nowhere on the USTR's website and nowhere on Ron Kirk's quotable record is the TPP referred to as an executive agreement.
In conclusion, the TPP falls under Congress' authority as a free trade agreement in progress, and you, as always, are a liar.
PaulT, thanks for pointing out an item I didn't catch earlier: the t-shirt comment was kind of out-of-the-blue, wasn't it?
Could bob actually be the infamous angrydude? I haven't seen anything from him in a long time, but one of his favorite quotes was "looooooooottttsss of t-shirts"...
You could even teach the class on it, since you're the only one that uses the term anyway.

Re: Re: Re: Re: The only thing that can stop this kind of crap...
If people are going hate Apple for upgrading their equipment, can we at least wait until they've announced that change?
You keep saying this. "It's not official." "We don't know for sure."
Here's an idea: why don't we, for the sake of argument, assume that Apple is going to change the connector, making it completely incompatible with all previous accessories. Now, I say, based on the previous assumption that is going to change the connector, "This sounds like a cash grab. I'm a pretty technical guy and I do realize there could be some actual technological benefits to changing the connector, it seems much more likely than not that this will be more of a windfall for a bunch of iJunk manufacturers."
Your turn! Please remember, for the sake of this argument, the assumption is that Apple is going to change the connector, ok?
Re: Re: The only thing that can stop this kind of crap...
Good job completely sidestepping the point! 6/10 troll points.
Nobody, yet NOBODY, is knocking Apple for changing "things in any of their products", I'm sure the new iPhone will come with many changes. However many people will be understandably upset when basically all of their current iJunk will no longer work with this newest wunderphone. Most see it as a cynical cash grab by accessory companies in forcing everyone to buy new iJunk. A select few, such as yourself, will attempt to make the change sound justified without actually providing any sort of justification other than "neener neener neener". Sure, Apple can do what they want with their products, but they will also have to accept a lot of people are going to be pissed.
Re: The last word on "piracy," from Billboard magazine
Mmm, pretty good article, agreed with many of his points. He spoiled it a bit in the comments with a silly reply to someone along the lines of downloading = stealing.
I don't buy that this is considered a settlement. As you noted, that could leave the door open for future lawsuits by Oracle, perhaps even against Google again. It just doesn't make sense for Google to convert what was clearly a major win, and an awesome precedent, into a whimpering settlement, so I don't think that's the case here. I think at most it is a way for Oracle to save a teeny tiny bit of face.
Once it became evident that the judge was knowledgeable and wasn't going to buy Oracle's bullshit, Google knew it had a slam-dunk here. It wouldn't make any sense to "settle" at this point in the game if it could possibly come back on them, so I'm guessing that accepting $0 in damages is still a loss as far as the case is concerned. Even more so if Oracle winds up paying Google's legal fees, which I believe can only happen in the case of not just a loss but a trouncing loss.
