Reasonable? Enforcing the law to the fullest extent according to a sentencing hearing that a judge given the facts how much you actually committed said act. Oh and my favorite part if you were remorseful for doing it, subjectively judged upon by not a jury but a person who's title says honorable is as about as pertinent as father (though molesting might happen both ways). If I find myself in court for sharing files with friends, let a lone strangers I guess I'm looking forward to the "fullest". I defiantly have trouble with people who believe reasonable anything as an axiom to a non-violent criminal. Though I think the real problem is the re-definition of criminal in the past 20 years.
In Utah we had video stores devoted to edited films... to me its just a highly evolved version of child abuse. When we restrict what people choose an the arbitrariness of age ya got problems. And yes, given a chance to vote to repeal the Supreme Courts decision on 7 dirty words I will.
And saying its reality doesn't make it so.
Btw games are something most people want as well and MMOs distribute the software completely free and turn profit on aesthetics alone: see Riot Games' League of Legends. Sustainable business model? LMAO. As for consoles... by who's standards?
AS for music the functional business model the 3 dollar mp3 I haven't seen in Itunes in quite a while.
Free and Cheap can compete anywhere, its the unimaginative lot that re-enforce the archaic.
P.S. I'm a game designer and havn't touched let alone played a console since N64 so I may be a bit biased on the "future of consoles" when I see syncing between a computer and TV and emulators everywhere.
Its a sad day when a logical mind sees a potential fan sharing a [blank] to a complete stranger as lost value.
Borrowed from a AC or was it? chime in if you reconiz it.
Nice way of destroying any reasonable debate.
Your "talk" reminds me of the abortion debate. How do you suddenly turn everything around to make the "other side" look like terrible monsters?
Easy: Call one side "Pro-Life", and the other side "Pro-Choice". It's impossible to choose a side, because the implication is that you are either a murderer or a fascist.
End result: People shut up, they are too afraid to take sides and become much easier to manipulate. Mission accomplished.
Actually the music industry isn't making "record numbers", they at best traded one source of income for another, and have to work much harder to get it. 2011 and 2012 are forecast to be horrible years for live music, and unless recorded music makes a sudden about face, things will be dropping all around. The real action is outside of consumer spending, in licensing and product placements. Consumer spending is flat and forecast to drop.
"They" said the same thing last year. I hope we get to prove ya wrong this one to ;)
The indirect harm is that you have now learned to pirate rather than buy, which may remove you as a consumer going forward.
Fear of loss != lost value
If learning to do something is causation for loss than time to really go forward rather than protecting the obsolete (not to mention extremely out of your control if you don't lower your prices to build or distribute... the article today on cheap games is a prime example). It's the fundamental flaw in science simplified: Once aware of itself or others it changes.
I kept thinking about this one and it started really bugging me.
A. The mother of all invention is NOT incentive.
B. Did history and technology switch Whats In It For Me from What Do I Need?
I suddenly smell the acrid of matches about to light my feet. So question, is the point here to find incentives or meet our needs? P.S. Happiness is a need.

Cant wait for #6... oh wait. Check on #7 as well. #8 The diety is TD.... #9 duty bound are ya?
So that leaves #10 Ah yes... ya touched on that one too... not creating is somehow something to be feared.
@- & Lawrence Nice question though I think the wrong one & "may have" isn't it either. Occums razor & human nature: Do you really need an incentive to create?
Wow didn't know that.... Though hope on the horizon.
Registration stop
When I started this website for the public I had never anticipated so many abusive, disrespecting, whining and dishonest people. If I had knew at the time, I probably never would have started it. Some of you may know I absolutely love programming, creating new stuff and improving other. Unfortunately, since quite a while now, I rarely get the change to do so. I find myself constantly busy with the 'social stuff' which is no fun at all. Much of this can be handled by my lovely voluntary crew but they need proper tools to do so. Since I am always busy with the 'wrong' stuff these tools are also lacking at the moment. With the current rate of 'new' members, we find ourselves unable to handle every complaint, request, question with the attention we would like to.
To give ourselves some time to sort things out I have closed the registration form. Besides that, I have removed all inactive profiles that haven't logged on for at least 6 months. We are now down to about 180.000 active registered members which I think is quite a lot already. To be honest, I don't think this measure will hurt anyone that much. Currently active members can play with their usual names, truly new members are not addicted yet and banned players are, well, not welcome. If anything, I actually think it may create a better experience for our existing members in a short while.
I have not set an end-date for the registration stop. If ever, it will open when the current crew and crew-to-be are settled and have the proper tools to do their jobs.
