I wonder what Martin Luther King would think of the greedy way his heirs are trying to monetize his speeches. Do you think he made any of them expecting to be paid for it?
I personally think Tom Cruise is a great actor. Can you be a great actor and off screen be a total whack job? Absolutely!! You would almost think it is a requirement for the job. Just look at he number of examples award winning actors whose personal lives are a total train wreck. Doesn't keep me from enjoying their movies and TV series. I don't care if Charlie Sheen blows coke until it comes out his ears. I still laugh my ass off at his comedy.
When my son was in high school his teachers and principal freaked out about a comment he made. His class was discussing a recent school shooting and just before they were dismissed his teacher said "We'll see you all Monday". My son said to a classmate "Yeah, if we're still here". Perhaps not in the best taste but his meaning was clear. He meant that the future was unpredictable and a school shooting could happen anywhere. They detained him until both me and my ex could come to the school. When we got there they had a conference room with about a dozen people, the principal, some teachers, the school shrink etc. Somehow they had the idea that he meant that he might stage a massacre at school. I had to convince them that he had no access to any firearms and had never shown any interest in them. They grilled him with questions and they finally believed him that what he said was in no way a threat. I guess we were lucky that was 15 years ago. If it was now he would probably be in cuffs and the discussion would have been at a police station. Some asshole cop wanting to make a name for himself and make an example out of my kid could have blown it way more out of proportion than his school did. Charges could be filed and who knows if they would bring in the feds to interview him.
Hell, who hasn't done some stupid when we were kids. I got into a few fist fights in school and it was handled by the school officials. Detention or suspension was the end of it. Today I probably would get assault charges on my record.
If they do throw him in jail there will be such an outpouring of public outrage they will never keep him there. This will make them look so bad that even the DOJ will be forced to back off. No politician in his right mind will side with them unless they really don't like being in office.
I like what John Oliver said about Mario Costeja Gonzalez when he covered this ruling. " The only thing I know about this guy is the one thing he doesn't want me to know about him."
A little honesty about myself. 20 years ago I used drugs and ended up with 3 misdemeanors on my record. I have been clean ever since. I have had to disclose them on every job application since then because any employer could do a background check in public records and find out. I checked with a lawyer about having them expunged and he said that in these days that would do little good. Even though he could likely get them sealed in all government records there are many private companies that employers use that have scooped up past public records and there is no way to remove them. If you Google my name this doesn't appear but many ads will show up from these private companies offering background checks on anyone for a price.
Even if there were Google links about my convictions and I could have them removed there is no way my record could be "forgotten".
Does anyone have a link to the podcast after the show? I watched part of it live but after about 20 minutes I lost it. The parts I heard it seemed like things were weighted against Snowden. Shouldn't they been obligated to present both sides by having someone there to defend him? Maybe Justin Amash or Ron Wyden? I heard little either on the show or the podcast about the details of the government abuses. I also heard nothing to debunk the bullshit argument that congress was aware of what was going on and approved it. It was pointed out that the the NSA was thrilled with the watered down Freedom act.
I was going to post a similar comment but you pretty much covered what I was going to say. I don't play video games any more. Back in the time I had an 8088 running DOS I played games like Captain Comic and Avoid The Noid. I finally just decided I was wasting too much time playing. I knew that there were cracks available but I would derive no satisfaction from reaching higher levels by cheating. It was the challenge figuring out on my own how to advance in the game that gave me a feeling of accomplishment.
Yes, I realized my grammatical error after I posted it but this site does not let you edit your posts. Your phrasing is what I meant to say. I have known several cops over the years very well and every one of them were ready to lay their life on the line to protect us. None that I have known have ever fired their weapon. A friend in Memphis came close to being shot but his K9 dog saved him.
Distribution is not the problem. Read the article again about the article again about how the Taliban is MURDERING the health workers trying to administer the vaccines.
If you can get a patent on something so obvious I need to get to work. How about "photography in front of a building" or "photography in front of a landmark"? Maybe "photography of a sunset". The possibilities are endless.
You are right. It is time for Australia to hold massive protests against the incredibly corrupt system that either makes much programing unavailable or ridiculously expensive. Certainly you have politicians being paid off to keep this corrupt system going. I know in America lobbyists are funneling massive funds into the campaign coffers of congressmen who can be bought by the highest bidder. They knot that if they are voted out of office they will have a "consultant" job earning obscene amounts with the companies that bought their votes while in office. Thankfully we still have a few honest lawmakers who will stand up against the big money interests like Ron Wyden and Justin Amash.
Who wants to watch a shitty cammed movie anyway? I've never downloaded one but I was at a friends house and saw what he was watching and the quality was terrible. When I commented about it he told me that it was actually one of the better cams that he had seen. Why not just wait and watch it on HBO or Netflix? There are plenty of ways to watch high definition movies legally or otherwise.
