Some person/company doesn't like being associated with a term does not immediately make it "offensive."
Perhaps the courts should also block "corruption" from suggest, to prevent association of the term with any questionable practices of leaders in the country...
I've always meant to write up some "Terms and Conditions" of my own, which applies to all vendors who accept my business. I'll include a link to these terms in my online order notes.
Generally, they will grant me reasonable rights such as returns with paid shipping, satisfaction guarantees, a decent warranty, etc. Nothing too out of line.
They can click and read them before accepting my sale, if they want. I would say my terms are just as valid as their own terms (will mine be explicitly supercede where there is a conflict).
Sorry Mike, I don't have the cash on me. Do you accept travelers cheques?

Once a video with corporate backing hits a certain viewership count or rate, YT can start demand money, or it will block users from seeing the content. We'll see how they like that.
Disclaimer: This is probably a terrible idea. Both parties are better off just taking the mutual benefits without money directly changing hands. Can't we all just get along(tail)?
Sure, in reality coins are not all the same, nor is each one perfectly evenly weighted. And sure, people can have steady flipping techniques to influence the outcome.
Probability doesn't really care about that, since we use a "idealized coin toss" in all discussions on the topic. Pr{H}=Pr{T}=0.5

Between this garbage and ACTA, its going to be a tough fight to keep this crap out of Canada.
This feels like a nasty little trick to get some blue collar support for copyright reform using empty promises to buy Canadian goods if only we'd give them what they want first.
They're a (the?) main ebook outlet, so why would they not just refuse to carry items at that price?
You want to be on Amazon "shelves"? Then charge a reasonable wholesale price.
Otherwise Amazon informs customers that they _want_ to stockl this book, but the publisher is not offering a fair price, and here are the phone number to call and complain. Crowdsource the harassment.
PS, publishers: You don't get to charge the same for ebook as you do for paper. Get over it. It's not going to happen.
Re: Compilations and pending payments on Copyright
If the legal system were fair and reasonable, it would be a win-win for us, really. Two possible outcomes:
- They are found guilty of infringement and owe the money, and thus collapse due to inability to pay up.
- They are found to have followed the letter of the law, and we all learn how to get and easy out defense for blatant infringement.
Huzzah.
The only problem was my opening assumption: that the legal system is fair and reasonable.
I can't even choose a competent ISP here because the condo has an exclusivity deal with Rogers. Also cable is rolled into the condo fees, making "ditching it" a non-option.
Rogers does this in Canada, too, I think. At least that was the case when I got my phone back in June.
I have since rooted the phone and cleared off their garbage version of the OS, and enabled paid apps on my own. I have no idea if Rogers has enabled them for the "typical" consumer.
It would be interesting to see the numbers on what percentage of the US population has access to at least ONE broadband source at this point, I suspect the numbers are quite a bit higher than most would expect.
And quite a bit lower if you use a serious broadband speed (say, 10Mbit+) for that census. 512kbit service is not broadband, no matter how much the cheap telcos would like to convince us that it is.

Same as I've always said
That includes almost anything graphical, and anything that gets in the way of what I'm trying to read/do.
Ads that are carefully placed out of the main interface area, and are generally relevant (even if only tangentially) are okay in my books.

No, because it should be skewed in favour of the consumer
