They do this and then the police/spooks wonder why no one trusts them. I'm very careful to avoid the police when I'm in the city, even though I have had no contact with the police in many years.
So true. Anyone that has been on the receiving end of cops gone bad (especially multiple times) would agree. I am much more afraid of police than I am of muggers/criminals. Honestly, the real bad guys are much easier to avoid than bad cops."
And if you run from a mugger/criminal you have a chance of getting away, but running from corrupt cops is likely to get you shot or tasered, thrown down, beaten, and tossed into jail on charges of fleeing.
news sites? CNN posts plenty of pictures online that can cause emotional distress. In fact any news site posts pictures that can cause emotional distress. And if it's based on how a person feels, then we can complain about any picture posted.
And how will the state of Tenn be able to prosecute people who don't even live in that state, much less in the u.s.?
Sometimes I can't figure out if the stupidest politicians are in the state legislatures or the federal government. Both seem to be complete idiots.
They arrest people in Massachusetts for filming the police too. Cops all over the country wonder why people don't trust them and it's simple: the police are not to be trusted. I do my best to avoid the cops when I am in Boston or Cambridge; I'd rather deal with muggers.
When the police attack people without cause, it shows the entire country that the police are not there to protect us.
Remind me never to visit Miami Beach. Nothing will happen to the cops who criminally assaulted the citizens; they will probably get a commendation.
getting that through. AT&T will certainly offer cushy highly paid jobs to any member of the FCC (and probably Congress) that votes in favor of the merger.
In lots of countries this would be called bribery, but here it is just business as usual. It's not just AT&T; look at who Comcast hired after their merger got approved.
Politics in the U.S. is just plain dirty once you get past the lowest elected levels. Honest politicians do not get re-elected if they ever even manage to get elected in the first place. The people who work for the various commissions need something to fall back on if they are booted.
Remind me not to visit the public memorials in Washington. God knows what they will arrest people for next. Laughing? Taking pictures? (oops they already do that) Holding hands?
if you could list the "campaign contributions" of the congressmen in favor of the measures. Of course this wouldn't show the under the table amounts that most Congressmen receive.
Plain and simple: the TV/Movie industry pays Congress for favorable votes. In most countries this is called bribery.
is totally in pay of big business. Allowing people access to drugs at more reasonable prices is against the goals of the rich American drug companies, thus they slip lots of money to Congress to block it.
It's the same problem with Health Care; the Health Insurers have a vested interest in keeping health care costs high and rising, so they "persuade" Congress to help them. They even blocked legislation that would require health insurers to use 80% of the premiums to actually pay for health care, a motion that would endanger the multi-million dollar bonuses paid to their executives. Health Insurers are a business, and making enormous amounts of money is the goal, NOT taking care of sick people.
when was the RIAA ever about paying money to musicians? I thought the whole purpose of RIAA was to fund the huge salaries of the RIAA executives? Has the RIAA ever actually paid anything to musicians, other than perhaps paying for them to play at their parties?
did the government ever worry about whether or not something was legal before doing it? History is full of examples of the government doing illegal things and often getting away with it.
With the DOJ now being more and more in conrol of the RIAA/MPAA it is not surprising that they would go crazy.
It used to be that the DOJ was for protecting the citizens, now it is for protecting big business.
doesn't care about free speech anyway. Most members of Congress couldn't even tell you what tis in the Constitution anyway, much less care if they did.
Congress would love to simply find a way to arrest people who publish anything that the members of Congress don't like.
