The sum of all the debits and credits in the world is a big fat zero. If you want to have some credit in your bank account then someone else somewhere has to have a deficit.
If you believe that a bank lends an amount of money equal to deposits, they you don't understand how the financial system works. Banks typically lend more money than they have on hand.
The floodgates are open. It's only a matter of time before corporations such as LVMH Moët Hennessy will submit their list of sites accused of selling knock-offs. I can see this being used by patent trolls against companies they accuse of infringing their patents or by companies suing other companies - "Hey, they infringe, block their website".
How the courts continue to side with old media is beyond me.
Apple has not stopped innovating. iOS5 will finally allow mobile devices to update the OS wirelessly. That it took five versions of an OS for mobile devices to 'invent' this ability clearly shows that it was a difficult innovation for Apple. It's not like you can update Windows via a wifi connection.
Pirates buy. During the 'CD era', I recorded plenty of CDs onto cassette tapes. But I also bought plenty of CDs (Toronto used to have four large music stores within a block of each other).
"If you want to make money from them, you need to serve them something for free with ads that you make money on."
You mean like how TV networks operated before cable TV existed? It never ceases to amazes how content producers forget how they made money back in the day. Giving something away for free. That sure was crazy.
My wife had a legally purchased copy of Grey's Anatomy. Due to copy protection, one of the discs did not play in our laptop. The rest did. So I had to resort to downloading that disc via BitTorrent with the copy protection removed. Burned it to a disc and it worked with no problems.
Except in this case, it is the government that is kicking people off the internet. I can't recall any cases where the government banned a shoplifter from shopping.
Drunk drivers get to drive in cars and shoplifters get to shop in stores. But be accused of downloading infringing material three times? No more internet for you. What a wonderful society we live in.
Will PayPal, Visa and MasterCard cut off payments to members of the IFPI if they fail to pay royalties owed to artists? Guess I won't be using PayPal anymore.
What do all the "if you don't break the law, you have nothing to worry about" people have to say about this?
The DMCA is used to silence critics. Now you have a corporation AND the government conspiring together to have a person arrested and extradited with false information.
I can't believe my government facilitated this arrest and sped up his extradition. Time for a revolution in every western nation.
Your founding fathers would have been rounded up on disorderly conduct, declared a national security issue and sent to gitmo for indefinite detention. Ain't the USA great.
The same *Canadian government* that owns *Canada Post*? Pay and benefits have not been legislated. The legislation included the government's offer and CUPWs offer. It's up to an arbitrator to choose which offer applies.
Did you realize that US has 10 times the population and that it is easier to spread costs over that larger population? Did you also realize that the USPS is losing lots of money each year? Maybe if they raised their rates they wouldn't lose money?
Who says it is a "valid and legal search"? The TSA? Seeing as the searches are being conducted by a government agency their legality and validity is questionable. Accused criminals have more rights than air travellers.

That is utter bullshit.
