It won't. they'll just pull a digital economy bill and only 40 of them will show up to work that day, then they'll vote it through with no debate. Speaking of, who's read cory doctorow's new book, pirate cinema?
Good stuff, i saw this when i was hitting craphound to download pirate cinema... i already had most of these, but i went ahead and paid my ten bucks.
Another thing that Doctorow did with the collaboration he put out with Charles Stross a month or so ago- was to set up a section on craphound where you could request a book for a school library, and people can buy and donate copies.
I had to do one of those, i mean, how can you resist that?
i feel like, somwhere in the DOJ facilities, probably in their training room.... is a judge dredd poster, captioned "I am the law" and secretly, in their blackened heart of hearts....they all think they're Stalone.
also, i'm anti dvd. it's an obsolete media that i refuse to allow in the house. My set up is based around needing nothing more than the roku box on all tvs and being able to watch anything, anywhere, anytime.
i see netflix streaming cataloge as a continuous fight against companies upstream that would like to strangle them. They do pretty well despite that imo. Plus, for old series runs, and kids cartoons it's worth the 8 bucks a month to me.
i wouldn't wait for a disk, i'd just head to the bay :)
weird, netflix claimed it was a limitation of the service. Unless you have dvds? i think you get more devices with DVD's, but i cut out all obsolete media.
it's the device limit. you can only stream to two devices at the same time.
at bedtime we'd have two kids streaming in their own rooms, and be unable to watch something grownup (on netflix) in ours. Not a big deal for me, but my wife's slowly working through doctor who, angel and buffy...all of which are on netflix.
I considered a hulu plus account, but found i couldn't physically bring myself to give money to those bastards, even though the net result would be more programming available total, since one or more tv's could be streaming via the hulu account. (i've got roku's on every tv, 4 total...essentially they get used as netflix boxes, or to stream content from my media server pc, but the kids just use them as netflix boxes because they can navigate that interface easiest).
once the wife works through her queue or the kids get old enough to learn how to find their own content and don't need netflix, then i can change it up again, but for now it works.
i've actually got two netflix accounts as well, one for the kids tv's for cartoons, and one for the main tv/main bedroom.
the interface is nice and simple, plenty of series and such for when we just want to "page through channels".
i watch stuff on netflix that i'd never bother to download, or don't have space for (like the full run of angel and buffy which my wife is working through now).
The seedbox is comes into play for current run stuff and ebooks, since they can't manage to get an a la carte on demand that meets my needs, play on any device, at any time, with whatever selection i'm looking for.
i've seen some new roku channels doming down the pipe lately from various big content...but they all suck, or they want a monthly fee, and have less content than netflix. guess we'll just have to keep paying for a good seedbox instead.
Of course we don't want them deciding shit about the internet. Any more than we want any other asshole with a stake in maintaining the status quo making those decisions. The question is how do we stop them?
the answer, luckily, so far seems to be "their own incompetence in regards to the technology". I'm not sure we can bank on that as a long term solution though.
it's come to executing american citizens via drone strike without a trial, and declaring whistleblowers and journo's who don't toe the line as "enemies of the state".
