I'm quite surprised that they haven't come up with a better excuse, er explanation, for why the NYPD doesn't have this data that they have been mandated to collect several times, they have one ready made. They can just say that they put that info in the same system, or one just like the one they use to track all evidence collected during investigations. But, as is the case when asked to give a report on how much the department stole, er, well there is no other word, so stole from the public under the heading "asset forfeiture", that such queries cannot be conducted because they entire multi-million dollar system would simply freeze up. Geeze, this one was easy peasy.
Seriously, for all the non-existent defunding that cops, their mobs, er unions, and the Republicans have been crying about, you don't hear a peep about using those slush funds to cover the safety and protective equipment they need so desperately, salaries, healthcare, fallen officer family support (whatever they can dig up to pull at any reasonable person's heartstrings) that they say they can't afford (let alone de-escalation training, basic training for recognizing and handling someone in a mental health crisis, domestic violence prevention in their own homes, and their own mental healthcare that many legitimately need). Nope, can't find any of those necessary things with their stolen play time money they secretly squirrel away, they need more tax dollars to keep robbing, raping, and killing the people, or they just might "let" the "criminals" do that themselves.

Republicans love socialism, love it! But, only for those they deem worthy. Like farmers, couldn't let them suffer from walking away from the TPP and tariffs on China- they vote red.. Like the rich folks who "worked" for everything they have and can trickle piss down to those lazy poor people. Like those needy coal and fossil fuel industries that everyone is so cruel to. And those predatory lenders, if those poor underbanked folks would just get a good paying job, and learn some self discipline and get some financial literacy and how to save money, they could get prime loans if they still needed one.... Socialism for me, not for thee.
What year does this guy think it is? And how does paying to use a social media site change moderation policies, the ability to effectively moderate at scale, or what kind of moderation the customers demand? Or how some may be harmed or perceived that they were harmed by moderation decisions?
This is the most poorly, well can't say thought out because it obviously wasn't, so I guess just an altogether shitty idea.
First, if you only police black communities, you will mostly only catch black "suspects". That does not mean that factually, that these statistics represent reality. If police suddenly changed tactics, and instead aggressively patrolled predominantly white areas- where they still hassle black folks disproportionately but say the really, really white, and rich neighborhoods- and began feeding data about their arrests and interactions (and depending on how many Karen's, Kens, condo and home owner associations who flag them down to bitch about the car with the expired tag, the people who don't take their trash can up until after dark, or play that damn rap music while swimming in their own backyard pool) then the data would make those neighborhoods look like they need an even greater police presence. After all, that data is not based on actual convictions, charges that were pressed, or even verifiable victims of crime. The data is just what the police say is the complaint or crime, even if no victim is claiming it (and cops love some drug busts, and whites use drugs just as much as any other group)and how the cop dispositions the encounter, like someone doesn't pull over fast enough gets charged with evasion, someone speaks up about a rights violation and gets an interfering charge, someone puts their hand out to block a blow, or prevent their face from smacking the pavement gets resisting, maybe a battering a cop... It's all garbage in, garbage out. White people, as cops prove regularly, are plenty violent, they just get afforded more leniency and privacy (deny all you want, but cops are known for spousal and family abuse, and their sexual exploitation of victims and sex workers is always coming to light)
Patrols should be limited to strategic locations in order to quickly respond to calls for help, and for dangerous driver situations like speeding in a school zone, driving aggressively or erratically. No more driving around looking for someone driving too cautiously, or teenagers in groups, or people minding their own business on a corner or front stoop or to fund a small town through traffic citation.
I suspect that police know more about some of the high profile smash and grabs, possibly even some involvement, than their investigations reveal. And I think it is for a similar purpose, to essentially generate demand for themselves, and reverse the paltry reforms and accountability measures. If people get hurt, have their business destroyed, face losing the few remaining employers in the area, they will want to pay lots for police, buy then anything they say they need, and will be so grateful that they will happily go back to turning a blind eye to brutality.
I mean, haven't the feds arrested nearly 800 people for 1/6, and some how 80 or so flash mob of burglars hasn't been caught? No record of their planning something, nothing leaked or released to the media?

Seriously, have cops actually enforced mask mandates on anyone, anywhere in the US? Stop it. Misandry is not actually a thing. If you actually bothered to look into the reality of it you would find that it's mostly a tongue in cheek way of demonstrating how ridiculous the premise of misandry actually is. Like an ultra feminine woman giving giving a misandry style make-up tutorial, or cross-stitching "I hate men" in the most delicate fashion on lacy handkerchiefs. It's not unreasonable to want fair treatment for all. But does any person's visa overstay cause harm to you or anyone else?
Have you considered how all the many pieces to your successful immigration came together, that many of those challenges could be insurmountable without support of family and perhaps an employer, opportunities for valuable education and learning English that few others have, coming up with enough money for applications, renewals, to cover travel and settling costs, safely traveling your country to get necessary security and health exams. The amount of time you were able to wait, without having to pick up and flee, repeatedly, or facing a wait longer than your remaining lifetime.
You know how difficult it was to get where you are, and you should remember the uncertainty of any change in your life could have on your status, something as simple as your employer merging with another company, marriage or divorce, or just a clerical error completely out of your control. Try not to assume that your success is largely reflective of a fair system for good folks like yourself. You are the exception, not the norm.
We didn't technically fund the army, most soldiers had been months without pay. We did try to train 10s of thousands, but 80% of their population is illiterate (which I'm not saying as an insult, survival outranks education). This means they do not have enough pilots, mechanics, air support, logistics and analyst teams, they are almost strictly ground force fighters. Even al-Qaeda sent the hijackers to the US to learn how to fly. And the country is too poor to maintain facilities and equipment we built for them, including civilian projects like power plants and hospitals. We designed everything the American way, bigger, shinier, with lots of gadgets and gizmos, instead of to meet the needs of the Afghanis.
The US provided the air support crucial for their missions, and without it they are just lambs to the slaughter.
The Pentagon kept pushing this idea that they were almost there, just a little more time, a little more money. They touted the high priced programs they bought like they were obviously a success, when there was little to no proof that anything at all was accomplished.
We should have been working on our soft power coalitions, our diplomacy, aid that wasn't contingent on politics or military goals.
Low and behold, not an hour after I read this, my daughter is trying to watch a favorite Little Angel video on her Fire Tablet, and it says that it has been marked private. This is an older video, or collection of them, and the thumbnail looks just like the examples above, except it's not Elsa.
The song is "Oops! what's that sound?", And it's a baby and mom singing out body sounds in a super innocent and cute way. It's not vulgar, it's nothing more than an example of the sound and then a very simple explanation. The worst of it is a short little fart sound, and it's referred to as a poot, explains that it's normal , could mean that you need to go potty. I'm an overgrown child so I giggle about it, but it really is very innocent.
The only other song that might be questionable, or picked up on an algorithm is a song about stinky socks, which is very silly, and very innocent as well. My little one doesn't understand why we can't watch it any more and she is really upset.
Now I had seen some questionable videos similar to those thumbnails, especially when searching for more girl centered content. And I was also surprised that Little Angel and lookalikes got away with using the likenesses of Disney princesses. But sorta seems like they should have left alone known content creators. I bet that horrid Little Baby Bum video that has the song about a kid putting a cat down a well hasn't been yanked.(otherwise I like Little Baby Bum). But content moderation at scale is never easy.
Being "raised properly" is a pretty loaded statement.
I'm 40, so I grew up everything from My little Ponies, Looney Tunes, TMNT, Ren & Stimpy, and Beevis & Butthead in my tweens. My home was mostly stable, but even if it wasn't I doubt cartoons would have been a factor in how I turned out.
But I'm also a parent now. And those thumbnails look just like Little Angel/ Little World, and even similar to Cocomelon musical cartoons that my daughter loves. Now I have to pre-approve every video she can see on her Amazon tablet, but not our computers. Some times, I take advantage of the opportunity to poop alone. Or finish something, anything that I started without 35 interruptions. And I'm going to be hella pissed if I come back to my 3 yr old watching a drunken Elsa injecting Spidey babies with something to get them high, in some disturbing version of pregnancy, with Spiderman slapping her around and humping her. It's a pretty undesirable situation to end up in her imaginative play, though probably harmless on its own, we would still have to address what is wrong in an age appropriate way. But that's not my concern.
When I was little, my mom overhead me playing with a little girl saying we needed to get money to bail dad out of jail. Her home life was a little rough. So was mine, but I didn't know about the multiple times my dad had to be bailed out because he was a drunk, it was hidden from me. My mom didn't want me to play with her after that. Later on, when I turned 8 or 9, we watched Beetlejuice at my slumber party. And another little girl's mom didn't want her to play with me anymore. And as uptight as parents are now a days!?! I don't give a rat's ass what some parent thinks of me, but I don't want my kid to lose out on friendships it.
So where are the parents? Right here, busting out butts, trying not to screw up too badly.
Right, but will they come out and say it? Because they keep claiming it's their "conservative" views that are being "censored", not the racism and hatred they try to cloak in religious values, or dangerous misinformation/disinformation. I think they are putting forth a bad faith argument and they know damn well why they keep getting put in time out, and can't come up with anything that actually aligns with pre or post Trump conservative values.
And what are the viewpoints of conservatives these days? It's not about cutting spending & small/limiting the power of government like in the days of old. Their shitty social values are the same. They can't openly degrade people on social media so easily because it's a shared space (nothing stopping them from buying a bunch of tiki torches and marching in their khakis, and they have become pretty emboldened with slinging the n word, even at a city council meeting) they used to, but they can still spread lies and disinformation about abortion, the environment, climate change, race relations. And they still get plenty of access to whitewash textbooks & lie to adolescents about the limited sex information they are taught (which has dangerous and life altering effects on people), something they never had much effective reach on Twitter to do anyways.
Do you count the lies, distortions, and science denialism as conservative values?
I mean seriously, tell me what actual conservative values are, because all I see are blatant lies and hateful vitriol being taken down.
Mince words anyway you want. Darth Cheeto went up to the podium, after his tech dept lead spoke about cleaning techniques to make shared spaces safer, clearly delusional from huffing his own farts, and mused a couple of brain turds, as if he actually had come up with some kind of brilliant and novel treatment that medical professionals would be heralding for the ages, about an internal light treatment or a cleaning of the lungs, which he then "confirmed" with the same tech guy that such studies would be happening with doctors. If what he said did not imply that ingesting a strong cleaner could some how cure or prevent covid-19, then companies like Lysol and Clorox wouldn't have had to put out their own press releases warning people not to take their products internally, and the poison control centers wouldn't have had a noticable increase in calls and reports of people ingesting cleaners and asking about it. The next day, that moron tried to say that he was kidding, being sarcastic, to see what the liberal media would do. I'm not sure if it's more disgusting that tacky shithead thought he could actually come up with a medical breakthrough, or that he thought that it would be totally fine for the leader of the free world to pull some stupid prank during a presser about a virus killing thousands a day.
Also lab leak does not equate an escaped bioweapon, or even a modified virus. Also, Harvard put out a letter or statement recently saying that they avoided endorsing lab leak theories because they did not want it to become a tool for racist and conspiracy theorist at behest of Trump. That's because they know that Trump's behavior would make investigating China more difficult.
No other unions hold the power that police unions do because no one, not even firefighters and teachers, can leverage fear like police. Teachers are a sympathetic group, we all know they are underpaid, so people support throwing them some scraps and don't go too crazy if they strike for a couple days. Firefighters have some dirty unions too, but them refusing to work seems to be beyond the pale. But cops threaten to strike, even though there are laws against it, back that threat up with a "slow down" warning, which is basically political suicide for the mayor or governor, who ever is in charge. Police pretend they are the only thing preventing a purge that will end society as we know it, and white affluent idiots eat it up.
The kids don't need any additional training than they are already get; remember, most of them have only had the internet to do research, unlike those of us who grew up using the library, not permitted to use the limited digital resources even available. Young people do much better at vetting their sources than older generations, they don't assume Uncle Bob's social media post is the golden truth they must pass on to everyone, because, well, Uncle Bob is old & doesn't know what he's talking about. But when it's brother Bob, someone you looked up to, who looked out for you, well , brother Bob's word is golden and you must tell everyone. It's really the grown adults, older millennials like me (damnit I'm generation Y as far as I'm concerned lol) and the rest of the older generations that need to learn how to vet sources, apply those critical thinking skills more consistently. My own mother has passed on warnings of kidnappers lurking in white vans, oh and the "new species fatally poisonous spider" to be on the look out for, and my husband believed a rather wild claim from someone he kinda used to know, claiming that this person's child was in the mother's custody, but was living with a pedophile, complete with a mugshot of stereotypical pervy looking dude, and a name that was previously on the registry, and a story that a judge was unwilling to grant him full custody to protect his child- a story that took me less than 5 minutes to debunk, even finding the real identity of the creeper, and finding how the SOR worked in AK, which would not allow for the situation as it was described. Adults need training, not kids
I'm not trying to victim blame, as these are children with zero responsibility for what they have suffered. At the same time, I can't help but wonder why their parents or guardians didn't make them feel safe in bringing this stuff to their attention. I'm not saying the parents are at fault either, blame is fully on the predators. But there is a trend some where in those victims of some necessary point of trust, where even if threatened by the pedophile, that they were not certain that mom or dads physical presence would not have been overwhelmingly safe and secure and able to protect them from the threats. I guess I can see how threats coming from a trusted adult, in person, can be an effective intimidation tactic to silence a child; where as an internet stranger, one who has presented themselves as a child or teen, even with some of the child's personal info, like their address, the name of their pet, ect, is more frightening than the security of a physically present parent can overcome. I know these scumbags groom the kids, get details about their lives, probably target kids they suspect are vulnerable. I was a people pleaser kid, I got a stomach ache from just being asked to be quiet from an adult, but even if I screwed up, I could still go to my Mommom or Mom and they would fix (or help me fix) the problem. It just bothers me that so many kids didn't feel confident or secure in the "powers" of Mom and Dad (or a grandparent, or a sibling, someone who acted as a protector)
Maybe I misunderstand the dynamic, but I hope I equip my daughter with the tools to stand her ground until she can get me or her Dad, who she will trust to protect her, regardless of any mistakes or blame she thinks she deserves.
Didn't they also add protections for drivers that hit protesters with their cars if they are blocking a roadway? That might have been dropped from the final bill, but I'm not sure.
Kinda surprised they didn't go for Wisconsin and Missouri plans to eliminate access to all state aid if convicted of anything protest related. These aren't the only states, but they include everything from Medicaid, SNAP (food stamps), student loans, unemployment benefits (FL doesn't administer that to anyone already), housing and
mortgage assistance.

Took away a favorite!

Re: Are there no parents left?

Re: Re: Re: Stop Defining, Start Announcing
Right, but will they come out and say it? Because they keep claiming it's their "conservative" views that are being "censored", not the racism and hatred they try to cloak in religious values, or dangerous misinformation/disinformation. I think they are putting forth a bad faith argument and they know damn well why they keep getting put in time out, and can't come up with anything that actually aligns with pre or post Trump conservative values.

Re: Stop Defining, Start Announcing

Re: Re:
On the post: Police Union, Lax Oversight Allow Florida Cop To Survive Three Arrests And Seven Firings
Re: Union paradise

Re: Re: But You Won't Like It
The kids don't need any additional training than they are already get; remember, most of them have only had the internet to do research, unlike those of us who grew up using the library, not permitted to use the limited digital resources even available.
On the post: Why Is Wired So Focused On Misrepresenting Section 230?
Re: Re: What's wrong with Wired?

Run 'em over
Didn't they also add protections for drivers that hit protesters with their cars if they are blocking a roadway? That might have been dropped from the final bill, but I'm not sure.
Kinda surprised they didn't go for Wisconsin and Missouri plans to eliminate access to all state aid if convicted of anything protest related. These aren't the only states, but they include everything from Medicaid, SNAP (food stamps), student loans, unemployment benefits (FL doesn't administer that to anyone already), housing and
mortgage assistance.
