The characterization of ESPN 3 is a little unfair. That service is a godsend if want to follow your Alma Mater's sports teams but didn't go to a Power 5 conference with its own sports network.
I don't know how much ESPN gets from Hulu but all the ESPN networks are included in the Hulu service for $40 a month. And it automatically DVRs the games from my favorite teams.
Now if Hulu could just stream an entire game without me having to exit out and come back in 5 times to get past a frozen screen...
We were paying $120 a month for cable / Internet with FIOS before we moved. With the move, we have Internet only FIOS for $40/mo, and Hulu Live for $40 a month. In what universe is $80/month not less than $120 a month?
I also have Netflix and MLB, but I had those with cable too so it's a wash.
And the only reason we have Hulu Live is its the only service with the Big 10 Network for me and HGTV for my wife. Once college basketball season is over I could downgrade to Sling for $20 a month for the summer. But I probably won't as my wife not getting mad about another change is worth $20 a month.
When I moved last month we cut the cord and bought Internet only FIOS at the new place. I was shocked that the $39.99 advertised price on the web site resulted in a $39.99 charge to my credit card.
Different cases, but the big guys here succeed in getting legal fees from the the legal guy on a stupid lawsuit, yet when Techdirt (the little guy) is the target of just as stupid a lawsuit, the court can't find any reason to slap the hands of the big guy by awarding legal fees to Techdirt.
Hey Mike Masnick - are you still living with javascript disabled in your browsers? Wondering if that is even possible is today's .js driven web world. Because more and more javascript seems like a security weaknesses.
What I've learned, or realized, is that there is nothing on TV worth the effort of a new streaming service, or even Bit Torrent. If it's not conveniently available on Netflix or Prime I just pass and do something else.
As a resident of VA I'm happy to see those touch screen devices go. Scantron is fine and maybe this will force the Legislature to give serious consideration to vote my mail.
That was a joke. The VA Legislature is mostly white and Republican, they will not do anything that makes it easier for non white folks to vote.
it's incredible that the state has failed to update its anti-SLAPP laws to prevent these sorts of lawsuits.
Really? The NYS Legislature is about 50% lawyers. It's no surprise at all that they won't take action that might reduce the options for lawyers to fleece their clients, err, make a living.
Every real estate agent I know thinks Zestimates are unrealistically high, forcing them to deal with the clients that want to list their houses above market value, based on the Zrestimate.
As long as lawyers keep taking these hopeless cases they'll keep happening. And since there seems to be no downside at all for the lawyers, I expect to keep reading about these cases on Techdirt for years to come.
I wrote a post about PureSim (I think that was the game), and in the comments you suggested that I check out OOTP. And I've sent money to OOTP just about every year since for the new version!

Or, I can can get 100/100 Internet, cable, and phone, for $89, before all the bullshit fees and equipment rental, etc.
They are basically giving cable away.
I'm not doing it though, as I have 50/50 FOIS now and I've never had an issue with lack of bandwidth, so I don't see any reason to upgrade.
