Also, I've found Cassette Tapes for sale by many smaller musicians, usually those by musicians or labels who either can't afford or don't have the means to produce vinyl.
Re: Re: one valid purpose to the theatrical release window...
Not to mention that after watching Dune (2021) on HBO Max, I saw it in the theaters twice so I could get the theatrical experience that its director said was a sine qua non to experience the movie. After seeing it in the movie theater, I understood.
As I said upthread, give me a reason to see it in the movie theater, and then I'll buy a ticket.
Re: one valid purpose to the theatrical release window...
Of course, the Marvel comics predate the movies (and the Norse Mythology far predate the comic adaptations vis-à-vis Thor and Loki). Also, Star Wars wasn't originally theirs.
That being said, there are also original movies that are hugely watched on Netflix, such as Bird Box and Don't Look Up. You're right about Netflix Films not being franchise-starters, as I tried searching and the only Netflix-exclusive Franchise-starter I could find was Red Notice.
I wouldn't have otherwise given the fourth Matrix movie a chance if it were not on HBO Max. I would've not seen it at all because I didn't like Matrix Reloaded or Matrix Revolutions. HBO Max meant I saw it at all.
This is what Village Roadshow films fails to comprehend: Give me a reason to see it in the theaters, like the Alamo Drafthouse regularly does, and I will come. Otherwise, I'll stay home and watch it there.
Not to mention that Banjo-Kazooie (now property of Microsoft) has appeared on the Nintendo Switch Online Nintendo 64 Expansion as well as on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
It's almost as if there's sort of an armistice in the console wars if you think about it...
Nintendo has often been compared to Disney. When you consider the evidence, here is the evidence for the comparison:
-adorable, "cutesy" characters
-critically acclaimed content with rabid fanbase
-draconian enforcement of their IP (though I have seen Disney buckle under PR nightmares, whereas Nintendo would soldier on and not GAF)
That being said, when it comes to Disney's imperial acquisitions of IP, Microsoft is most like Disney. Disney gobbles up any successful studio/IP creator willing to sell to them, and Microsoft does the same for studios. The reason is the same: to build up content for their subscription services (and in Disney's case, movie theaters). Nintendo is content on having already established franchises and making new ones every now and then (like Splatoon and Arms), so they're good. Also, they have gimmicks in the hardware whilst making them not as powerful so as to have cheaper components, so the appeal is for companies to make for Nintendo's hardware such as the Wii (which was built around motion controls) or the Switch (which was a true hybrid system (while concepts like the Switch have been done before like the Turbo Express/Sega Nomad or the other way like the Super Game Boy or the Game Boy Player, The Switch was a Hybrid with 100% of the games made for such a setup)).
Even without the cynical motivations, Jon Tester is a farmer who lost some of his fingers in a turbine so I wouldn't put it past him to have sympathy for farmers.
There's something you should know about Montana Politics, though: For a while, the singular Congressional district (which has now been split in two) was solidly Republican, and the people there have been open to filling the Governor's office and any of the US Senate seats with populist (as in anti-élite, not "dumbfsck fascist" which far too many do) Democrats. The state has consistently voted Republican in presidential elections and (as I said) sent a Republican to the house of Representatives for decades.
(Nota Bene: I am not from Montana nor do I have family there but I have followed Montana politics for a while two decades ago so I know what I am talking about)
In many of the US states, Judges are elected, which means that state judges are also politicians and have an additional political dependency.
(Though I will say that when I vote for judges in my particular precinct in Brooklyn, NY, almost always are judges on both the Republican and Democratic tickets (New York State has fusion voting). When that happens, I call those "Soviet Ballots" because you don't really have a choice (though they're not quite like the USSR because you can choose to not vote on those slates and not be punished).)
Don't drag Japan down with the rest of them: Capcom and Arc System Works are awesome! Also, for a while, there was a huuuge toleration of Doujin works until copyright infringement became a criminal act, when it couldn't be ignored.
So Japan was once better than the US, but it has nothing to do with their corporate culture but if anything the copyright laws we oblige by treaty upon them.

It would be one thing if YouTube said "we don't do that here", but this is in fact a case of Toei using © law to tell an Irishman that "he can't do that anywhere".

Yup. Pretty much that. The © industries pretty much said "If you don't get draconian © policy, you won't get our products". That's how they were able to defeat South Africa getting Fair Use on par with the US's protection, but they can't because they would otherwise be cut off by the MPA's and RIAA's products.
