What's the dividing line between "fan fiction" and "no fan fiction". If I were to take Roger Zelazny's Amber World and write an Amber Novel and sell it - would I be crossing the line?
What about Mickey Mouse? I hear occasional fear mongering over the fact that the "copyright" is going to expire. Is it different because it's art? Would not my expression of the mouse be "different" or does it have to be different enough to avoid the copyright issue?
Whether you like it or not - a literal reading of the law shows that this guy is Guilty. The law applies to Minnesotans advising.... not to those who attempt/commit suicide.
On broader issues - there are two types of suicide:
This guy is actually a serial killer in my mind because he is taking advantage of the latter and manipulating a sick mind into the ultimate act of preventing recovery. Suicide removes all choices.
The allegations are total bunk. I'm not sure what else to say but Apple is well within their rights and they are pursuing what is in their minds a good business strategy. The Government needs to butt out. As always.
re: Flash. I expect a flash player to become available. Adobe claims that the lack of a flash player on iPhone/iPod Touch is because of processor capability. That's now moot for this device.
Southwest Airlines is doing this now. You can check in 24 hours before your flight to get your boarding pass. I'm usually right on the minute in order to get a good seat and so my family can all sit together.
Now with Southwest - for $20.00 you can check in earlier than the 24 hours.
I'm a published author - and my book deal with the publisher is 8% for published books - and 25% for electronic distribution. My deal was made in 1997 - when ebooks were not in vogue or even very much handled. Now - I love it. However, it's less money for the publisher. They'll get what the market will bear - that's basic economics. If Amazon is willing to pay it, the publishers would be foolish to charge less.
I think we need more such prosecutions. Hear me out. The more ludicrous these get then the sooner people will decide to change the law to explicitly protect service providers and we can get on with our happy lives.
I do it all on my mac. I use vmware fusion and I do it all on one piece of hardware. It is cost effective because I just have one piece of hardware to "do it all". I bought the mac because I wanted to do some mac and iphone development. This makes sense.
Apple hardware is of higher price. It's also better quality.
I liked the user experience so much - I ditched all the other hardware and bought more macs. I've switched all my productivity to the mac side of the house and use with windows boxes only for development.
Nothing is perfect and on one macbook the fan started making a lot of noise. I took it to the apple store and they sent it off to a repair depot (no cost) and I had the machine back, repaired, delivered directly to me in 72 hours.
Gas tax is unfair because when I drive my truck I pay more tax than when I drive my car.
If you use GPS then I'll be taxed fairly. I'll get to pay an equally high tax on each vehicle.
That's not really an incentive to buy an economical "green" vehicle.
The problem is really that tax revenues from fuel sales are perceived to go down when more hybrids and fully electric cars (no tax there!) are driven.
I think this is coming whether we like it or not as we transition to differently powered vehicles.
They could just use the odometer. Sure it can be "spoofed" but don't you bet the GPS can be jammed? Also it doesn't really work well in all cases so is unreliable. Just have some radio reporting of self reporting of the odometer.
He should be suing for breach of contract and not copyright infringement - though copyright may be an EASIER avenue to the cash.
On the ball because he's actively pursuing his contract and the obligations of it. It may appear to be STUPID on Fox's part but that doesn't make this guy a fool by any means nor does it negate his rights.
Go for it.
Show how insanely stupid current copyright ENFORCEMENT is and let's slay this dragon.

Terminal illness/suffering
Depression/Mental illness

Did the Telco's make a buck selling the government the information?
On the post: Will Google Pull Out Of India, Australia And Other Countries Over Internet Censorship?
Re: Let them start their own Google..
Google was/is a minority player in China.
Baidu is the search engine of choice for various reasons and remains censored.
gmail is something else.
Gmail was used as a tool of the Chinese Government to crach down on it's citizens.
I believe this is what Google cannot stomach and they are retaliating in the only way they can.
Until they are blocked - the citizens that use google will get unfiltered results. Good for them.
