Given the absolutely TINY number of musicians (even among the so-called "professionals") that make money exclusively from their music, I think you might be a wee bit off. Since only 1 in 10 label-signed acts turn any sort of profit, obviously the people in those groups and projects need to have alternative sources of income, as well.
I think your point of view is derived from the naivete that comes from believing that musicians who don't have jobs do nothing but practice during average work hours...eight hours straight a day, at least five days a week. Baloney. They get the band together a few hours a week, then they spend the rest of it playing Call of Duty and going to parties...same as the musicians who have jobs.
Although some dilettantes may scoff at my apprehension, I don't see how more electronics in cars is a good thing.
My 58 year old mother's Ford Focus burst into flames while she was driving it just the other day due to the wonderfully modrun electronic control unit shorting out. I can't imagine what could happen if something similar occurred in a car with the accelerator, brake, and steering controlled by electronics.
Is it just me, or do these people not want anyone listening to retail music for any reason?
Not a problem for me, mind you: I haven't listened to retail music since 2009. But it still baffles me how any usage a customer gets out of the product they market is "stealing" something or "devaluing" something else.
When enough people agree something has value, tangible or not, it is not the scarcity that they are agreeing upon, it is that enough people like it that they are willing to spend money on it...therefore, it now has monetary value, regardless of scarcity.
With about 500 million people worldwide setting the monetary value of digital retail content at $0 through p2p downloading, I can't help but think that aspect of your argument backfires on you.
That and it has only made, to date, at least, $815,832 towards its reported $4,000,000 USD budget.
Way to not read his blog post, chucklefuck. That figure you're quoting does not include foreign and (upcoming) domestic distribution, nor potential home video revenue.
In his ads for the Red State tour on the SModcast network, he ended each ad by saying, "...and if you don't want to see it then [wide October release], well, you know, Bittorrent. It'll be on Bittorrent pretty soon."
He doesn't encourage it, per se, but he recognizes the reality of it and also seems to understand that bitching about it is pointless, since most of the people who won't pay to see it just wouldn't see it in the first place if denied to opportunity to pirate it. And he's said multiple times that he'd rather have people see his films for free than not see them at all.
Try telling your friends that you don't think they should be able to prevent a rival band copying their work and passing it off as their own? See how they'll react to that, because that's what "no copyrights" means.
