Pretty much this. The idea that suddenly bonds are riskier than corporate debt is crazy. Also, no offense to the corporations that have AAA ratings, rating MS higher than the US is basically like saying that MS will outlive the US, oversimplified.
By the way, this is the exact same ratings dip that Lehman took like 4 days before it went completely bankrupt, so, no, these ratings dont have an effect. The market for treasuries has an effect, not the assholes talking about it, at least not seriously.
The real solution to this is to keep everyone filming cops. If the entire crowd whipped out a smart phone and starting recording, you can be damn sure no one would have gotten arrested. Except the suspect if it was warranted. Just a matter of time, and the more these stories get airplay, the more people will want to record a crazy arrest for their 15 minutes.
Im betting this is suddently a problem with HD phone cameras (or just good, at first) that can accurately reproduce identifying evidence about the cop. Before, if a cop did something bad on camera, everyone would say 'not it' and nothing would happen. Now they cant, and it freaks them out. Which it should. A cautious police force is a safe populace.
Taken one step farther, if a pregnant diabetic just trying to get on a plane can easily set up the TSA to fail, while smuggling contraband on board, why would you possibly put your safety in this ineffective groups hands?
Yes you can. I wont debate the existence of those money-hungry programs, but I do debate the idea that it creates a 'safety net'. Crack and basketball are more of a safety net in the US than your government is....
Thats actually the exact point of the article you clearly failed to read....
Also, an interesting point for those of you that dont understand economics, while it might be good for investors that treasury bonds accumulate interest at a faster rate than the economy grows, you should be aware that its still probably under inflation (which is the metric that matters), and also, if the government is paying more interest on bonds it issues than it grows its revenue, then that delta will some day be paid out of taxpayers wallets.
Another thing most of you ACs dont tend to take into account (or really anyone) is that the US government might be 14.5 Trillion dollars in debt, but there is another 40 trillion in expenditures over the next 10 years the government has ALREADY LEGISLATED IT WILL SPEND that it cant pay for. Not spending that money is just as much breaking the law as spending above the debt ceiling. Basically, I don't like Obama either, but until he starts violating the separation of powers, its Congress's fault and only Congress's fault that you are in this mess.
Actually, that statement could be interpreted as he is like a particular tea party member, which he is, Ron Paul. However, Ron Paul does not allow moral conservatism to impact his fiscal policies and would legalize drugs and privatize public services in a heart beat.
On the other side, Mike is CLEARLY not a member of the Tea Party, and thinking he is simply ignoring the facts.
So you think its simply a patent thats keeping people from reverse engineering the A4/5 and iOS? Umm. No. Thats a silly argument. I think the fact that once you start directly copying a competitor your business model becomes 'wait until they release, then reverse engineer, then release', creating such a delay that you would never have a competitive product, and it would fail.
Thats the reality of the situation. Now stop thinking everyone wants to copy Apple just because you do, Samsung, Nokia, Google, MS, HTC don't want to copy Apple even a little bit, they want to copy their success, which means innovating at the same or greater rate.
As a U of A employee, I know that these vampires have tried to suck the blood out of us, effectively charging as if nothing we do is fair use just to prevent the occasional infringement lawsuit. Well, then they tried to raise the prices higher than a full time litigator, soooo sucks to be them, because law suits cost everyone and we are WAY bigger than they are.
Those sites are used to move perfectly legit binaries around all the time, for example, the android development world. But thats beside the point, because that part of it is legal. Its the fact that they sort out content and then sell that content without paying the copyright holder. And I think they pay the uploader for the right to do that without checking if the uploader is the copyright holder.
There are at least 3 other companies with a Trademark on 'Ice Age' and as far as I know none of the trademarks mention dice at all, although they literally mention everything else.
I agree with everything you just said, but I dont think you really understand what megaupload does. It allows users to upload content for storage (legal) and then also provides a service that allows users to browse that content and view it (also legal). But the difference would be if they transfer content to separate MegaVideo and MegaPorn servers to then sell that content out. Thats the step that would concern a judge I believe, because it would be like selling a netflix competitor that just streams content off the PirateBay.

And Mike is actually a lot closer to those stated goals than Bachman or Palin are, thats for DAMN sure.
This actually talks a lot about decentralization of government, which is a fairly frequent topic here.
