Doubtful it makes security worse. With proprietary code there is no easy method for an outsider to write and submit a patch for a security problem. While with open source code, an outsider could write and submit a patch. Open source code potentially gains interested outside developers beyond the resources of the sponsor. Hackers want patches to be slow to develop and push out to users. The weakness of proprietary code is the sponsor can only dedicate some much staff and resources to patching.
Subpoenas can be issued to Dropbox, Prenda, Gibbs, etc for the relevant records. Also, look at the document's metadata for possible clues. Most people are unaware there is document metadata which might detail the original author (actually originating computer).
Publishing embarrassing but (over)classified information is not treason. What the dimbulbs forget is that other intelligence agencies are often very good at finding this information out and using it.
Most real traitors are funneling secret information for money or because of other loyalties. The information they are sending is usually highly technical such as keys to codes not internal gossip.
One of the most effective methods of exposing the foibles of the powerful and stupid is parody. Also, it is one of the forms of humor they hate because it mocks them in an obvious, often harsh, and many times very funny manner.
The NSA failed to do traffic analysis and then target the accounts based on the analysis. Traffic analysis is based on the fact all organizations have information flow patterns that can be determined. The patterns give on a clue about the structure and location the various parts. You start with a known and work from there. In the case of terrorist, only some of the traffic links are important.
Also, for most people, traffic analysis will lead to nothing important for the NSA because they are doing nothing of interest to them. Vacuuming all traffic threatens to overwhelm the analyst with useless data that will never be of any value.
Since I do not knowingly hangout with terrorists of any type the chances that any of my conversations, emails, etc. will lead to an intelligence break through is about 0. Collecting my data only clutters up the disk and will never provide any useful information.
The real risk is that the NSA angers enough people like me and the resulting political and commercial pressure forces an over reaction that hurts US businesses and the ability of the NSA to actually monitor foreign enemies.
There is a serious problem for both the INS/IcE and the judiciary. I am appalled this could have happened for 35 years and never was caught.
A more general issue is how often are non-existent laws and regulations are used to convict people; particularly those who have to rely on public defenders. The total number of pages is so vast it is it impossible for someone to completely comprehend them all.
Healthcare.gov is not enrolling large numbers of people into plans. The old system was not great but one could buy insurance much faster than with Obamacare. I have trying to find what plans are available for me and their cost since Oct 1 with absolutely no success from Healthcare.gov. If I had been dealing with an insurance agent or company before Obamacare I would have some preliminary, non-binding quotes and policy information within a few minutes (e.g. company x will cost about y per month and will/will not cover this).
For a comparison, look at auto insurance. True one has to comparison shop various places to get competitive quotes. When one wants to buy, the companies try to make a user friendly as possible. Their ability to get new customers and renewals is dependent on customers being able to efficiently supply the information and get an accurate price. Even the comparison shopping is relatively easy even if the rates are not binding.
It will be interesting to see how solid the evidence is. Also, anonymous or semi-anonymous posting is done by many for rather mundane reasons that have nothing to do with any illegal activity. So I wonder about the DOJ's understanding of the Internet.
From what I remember, convictions for "Crimes Against Humanity" can carry the death sentence. Will Bolivia, assuming there is conviction, then insist on the death sentence on the appropriate US officials?
Many of the defendants of the Nuremberg and Tokyo War Crime Trials were charged with "Crimes against humanity". Many of the convicted were sentence to death and executed very quickly.
The problem with general-media wall gardens is that the content is that unique or critical for most people to want to pay money for it. If the story is big enough many organizations will cover it.
Also, most newspapers do not have the type of readership that is willing to pay for the privilege of reading them. About the only one in the US I that fits this model is the Wall Street Journal.
The restrictions are reasonable from what I see; what is the purpose and when posting/publishing the image give attribution. The first strikes me as Getty is trying to find how people are using the images. The second is basically a reminder it is proper etiquette to credit the source of the image.

Flaw in the Audits
Alternatively if logs are deleted on a very regular basis, say every 8 hrs audit trails would be very difficult to reconstruct.
Either way, it would be impossible to reconstruct what happened if the events occurred more than a few hours earlier.
