Why do people think that they have the god given right to be paid over and over again for the length of their lives + 70 years? Jeez I wish I got paid for the PC I fixed last week everytime the lady used it.
Yes people should be compensated fairly for their creative endeavours but as is sooooo apparent the current system is just not up to demands of the 21st Century.
Hopefully as more and more attention is brought to this some change can be made to simplify the system and benefit both content creators and the end user.
Typical knee jerk reaction by government, either trying to keep their business partner donators happy or supressing the freedom of speech of their voters.

Excellent video... I have loved OK Go since I saw the viral video for "Here it goes again" and they seem to be going from strength to strength. Hopefully once they are free of EMI we will see them embrace CwF+RtB and really benefit from going it alone.
Interesting... as part of a further education college who has been implimenting plans to have some form of open access wifi connection that we could offer our students I'm interested to see how this pans out.
Not without a complete shift in politics. As long as governments allow themselves to be lobbied on behalf of big business the views and interests of Joe Public aren't going to matter one iota.
I think authors/publishers are making too mush of an issue over formats. People will buy what people want to buy, why force people to wait for a product to appear in a format they want. Windows are just plain daft as far as I'm concerned. By the time you get round to releasing the e-book version I may have moved on or forgotten, you've lost out on my ££'s.
These industries seem to be looked into an era pre-internet/pre-tech... this is the 21st Century people, not the middle of the 20th!
lmao... and still after all this interaction with his fans he doesn't get it.
Listen Mr Preston, IF I want your book in hard cover I'll buy it in hard cover, if I want it in paperback then I'll buy it in that format, as I read everything in these days on portable book readers I WANT IT IN THAT FORMAT! Over the last few years I've spent a considerable large amount of money getting the e-book versions of my favourite "guaranteed to re-read again" classics, I'm not trying to con you out of cash, I just want to be able to read your latest book in a format of my choosing and at a price that isn't the same as the actual paper edition.
Oh look... the "I hate the BBC" brigade seem to have arrived!
Forget the BBC, forget iPlayer (which the article isn't about) and re-read it again. The newspapers are unhappy with the fact that app absorbed idiots are going to get a shiny BBC news app that allows them straight access to news compared with having to open Safari and manually browse to the BBC news portal!
FFS, the sooner this dead beat dinosaur companies fall by the wayside the better.
TAM, get the same two tables and have them both say $1.29, now put someone behind one of them with a cash register and leave the other un-manned, see how many people still go and buy the soda, see how many people don't take the soda from the un-manned table.
No-one is talking about straight to DVD. Lionsgate are saying they wish to seriously reduce the length of time between Cinema to DVD/Bluray with this movie.
What they are saying, to me at least, is that they're open to new ideas, new ways of doing business and rather than FORCE people to go to the cinema or WAIT for the DVD/Bluray release they will offer it almost immediately, this will be good for business... just hope the film is good.
So TAM if what you think is correct and that people who use p2p are only interested in FREE why did the CRIA commissioned report show that amongst their peers the same freeloaders spend more money buying music?
The digital market hasn't matured, ffs it hasn't even learned to walk yet.
"rick dakan is another author whom i have read the electronic versions and have then given the physical copies as gifts to another person. i bought my copy of his third novel "blackhat blues" directly from dakan at a hacker convention with an autograph without even bothering with the digital version."

There are many more reports showing similar trends, plenty of entries on Techdirt pointing this out.
And if you want, google "p2p users buy less", funny stuff!

Fight Club, box off flop, cult following DVD sales through the roof. Ranked 16th in IMDB top 250.
Shawshank Redemption, mahoooooosive box office flop, massive amounts of Video/DVD sales now ranked 1st in IMDB top 250.
Rule No.1, don't ever base the success of a film on it's box office takings.
