This is the same guy that wants to lock up journalists, shut down the government, stop the government from spending money on its citizens, keep taxes lowered ok the richest people, believes in gerrymandered districts over democratic rights of the people, denies climate change based on his bribes from the oil industry, and his overall morality is atrocious when it's based on being a self-centered power hungry mad man who treats the public like serfs and peasants instead of people with valid concerns.
Have I missed anything or does anyone else see the problem with these people in office supporting the worst representation of American culture?
No. We had a lot of technology support with SOPA. The public had to appeal out with public interest groups such as KEI & EFF. We need more people to shout down the mercantilist ways of Hollywood and recognize that they don't represent the interests of the rest of the world. They don't have a good distribution model, their movies are repeats, people are producing and making money without them, and they are locking up our culture for their private profit.
The way to change that is to fight them directly and in the courts for people's fair use rights which they've scuttled with their insistence on DMCA takedowns, statutory damages, and destroying lives of people that try to archive or make information available.
It's going to be a hard fought battle and it has to be fought on multiple fronts. Until better alternatives come up, these are the options available.
I just can't afford official manga... It's overpriced, there are never any deals on the books, and it's far too easy for me to just keep up with the story through digital access.
I would love to get the manga for One Piece. But it has over 800 chapters now. Since each book puts in ten chapters into a larger book, that price is far too high at $ 10. Think about this... The story is only half way done and I would have to invest the price of a car payment into this story. This isn't even getting into the anime which has only three episodes on a disc and costs $20 a piece. That has over 500 episodes. Do the math...
Either I have to be rich for a hobby, or I'm being exploited for their private benefit.
So thank God for those portrays that actually invest in this medium and allow me to keep up with these stories. Thank the Creator, for someone uploading their translations and showing how bad the official ones are. And thank Zeus for those pirates maintaining a weekly schedule that OP maintains in presenting some great we can watch here in the US were it not for greedy individuals trying to say that people should do without Impresa they charge an unnecessary toll to access.
Europe has the right to refund games. There are very few Communist countries there. Granted, Germany may be close but it's ridiculous to believe you should only be able to rent a game that you paid for.
Wow... I mean, damn! You cannot tell me in any perceive way that this DRM scheme was going to end well but this is the culmination of YEARS of warning for EA in particular!
They were warned when they tried DRM on Spore and that failed.
They've made their past games useless by disconnecting servers and ensuring their rent to own model.
They rely on copyright to control what people say about their games on YouTube and other sources while bribing reviewers in major magazines to give their games high Scots through their soft corruption (corruption laundering whereby they give gifts if the scores are high but stop said gifts if the game reviews poorly) and created a cargo copied alternative to Steam to monopolize money which their ENTIRE FANBASE hates for being obtrusive about data and ignoring their complaints.
But all of this just pales to how they absolutely FAILED. The public HATES this. And they made a quick buck but their name is less than mud. How the hell does any company insulate themselves so much that they can't figure our how this was a bad idea?
Finally, this just exposes how copyright and monopolies just don't work. I'm site that if EA could they will go aster this video detailing their failure while Streisand will be proud, but with everything else that they've done in making this game worse for the public, they can't even raise a defense here.
I swear, people should take away the laws that helped create this mess in the first place... Copyright laws that allow corporations to hold onto monopolies for years and the CFAA which would surely criminalize this modder who is exposing how bad they screwed up.
Maybe EA needs to just take a step back and actuallyhire some people that can think. Or maybe they should restructure the company so that the people that make the game stop listening to the publishers. God knows, those guys gave no idea what they're doing and it may be time to head for newer waters.
" Liberals, libertarians, and secular intellectuals have typically dismissed such efforts as liberty-stifling government over-reach."
Just my own little nitpick, but why is it that people can't think about anything other than people on the same political ideological spectrum?
Would a Socialist actually enjoy a few discussions on how zombies are a part of society that describes our worst fears about our fellow man?
Would someone that is a Marxist actually talk a little more about communities if they were represented in the show?
How about anarchists?
Kind of one of those things where people who believe more in individual rights would actually supportmore conversation instead of preventing people from just talking about what to do during a zombie apocalypse.
DH, I enjoyed the Sim series. I also enjoyed Need for Speed, Command and Conquer, Road Rage, Mutant League Football, Skitchin, and other games that EA's developers produced. But we should be very clear about the nostalgic impulses here...
The creators of those games are gone. Some moved to different projects, some created their own studios. All of the people that created the games you knew are not a part of this publisher's war on piracy.
You might want to support them, but there are some serious competitors that can take their place on various fronts. I like the City XL game myself and I have a phone that plays another city builder game for free.
If EA wanted my money, they would stop trying to fight piracy, compete with their past games and provide better features than what they have now. The anger and rage that people are feeling is the rage of people being exploited for no reason other than trying to make money as quickly as possible.
Sad to say, but if their best games are in the past, then so is that company. Nothing they could do could convince people they're worth a damn if they have a history of thinking of the public as morons instead of deserving customers.
Re: Re: Re: Re: This limited hang-out doesn't mean Google can be trusted.
Google and the NSA have been working together since 2007 and refuse to divulge information about the relationship.
I thought more people would understand that Google giving people a unique identifying cookie made it easier to spy on citizens for a government that doesn't need that power.
He was also correct in the fact that free speech can be eroded by mass media. He didn't have the words for it, but just think how the corporate media has eroded what we can discuss and how the internet usurps the power of people to discuss topics and you basically have one of the things he knew to be true:
That mass media will look to fill vacuums and usurp democracy.
Okay this seriously needs some epic music that captures the feeling of being cornered. I just love how everyone could see this coming but it still failed to prevent them from creating a copyright train wreck.
So here's my proposal for music for Monday:
Phoenix Wright has the best music so far but I'm open to suggestions.
If this is the same CNN that leery go of their investigative journalists, then all they are, ask they want to be is a microphone for the rich and powerful.
Seriously, they let go of Soledad O'Brien, who asked tough questions of politicians. They don't investigate and they just have a "Republicans say this while Democrats say this" mentality. Then, they just follow Fox News' lead in trying to say that "both parties are the same".
Let's be absolutely clear about what CNN is... They don't care about investigative journalism, they don't care about disclosure, they just care that they make money and AT&T pays them well to pass a disingenuous argument for a hill that is unpopular with the American people.

The benefit is to clamp down on progress and make the world stable for a select few people. That's the authoritarian way.
But what's incredible is that this same idea being done in the US on this global scale is a mistake of history.
It's been tried in two World Wars and it always leads to disastrous results...
We're about to repeat history for a third time and that scares me.
