I had kinda thought these scams had mostly gone away, but then I got an email a couple weeks ago about someone wanting to contact me for "a personal financial matter involving $35 million."
It really is mindboggling that people still fall for this crap. If I lived in Nigeria, I'd probably be writing songs about gullible Americans, too.
Exactly what I was going to say. You get people who go about this the wrong way, and what results is angry fans, like with the recent countdown clock for "V" on screen during ALL of Lost. Not only did it annoy everyone, it literally blocked wording on an in-show note that people were meant to be able to see.
That's awesome. I was actually wondering about this the other day. When the game went free, I tried it out for a night and quickly became bored (I don't think fantasy MMORPGs are my thing). Recently, I was thinking about it for some random reason, and I figured that there was certainly a user spike when they hit free, and I'm sure plenty of people picked it up and quickly dropped it like I did. I was curious as to how many people stayed with the game.
I actually just wrote a brief article about this myself. Another point I made is that this gives the detractors of 3D one more reason to shun it, as high pricing was already one of the general complaints.
It's as if the folks in Hollywood haven't been paying attention to what happens to companies that aren't providing what their customers want.
It is kind of like that! Wait a minute...
These debates always remind me of MBA class case study-type discussions, especially this one class I had with an instructor who used to be an exec at Ford. He always referred to the fact that American car manufacturers failed because they refused to make the kinds of cars people wanted. They refused to listen to the market. It's sort of like the horse-and-buggy scenario all over again.
Years from now, we'll be discussing people like Dan Rayburn in our grad schools.
This reminds me of a study that determined that when computers statistically analyze symptoms and patient data, they consistently do significantly better than doctors do in determining a diagnosis and treatment -- even when doctors are given access to the exact data and computer recommendations.
Understandably, a lot of people feel wary of taking treatments out of the hands of a single expert, but all data seems to suggest we should be considering these sorts of diagnosing methods.
