I live in one of the three counties in Missouri who went for Clinton. I know a few folks who are openly happy, but most are keeping their heads very low since violence against Trump supporters is a very real thing. Two of my neighbors houses got vandalized because they had Trump signs in their lawns. I've heard of many similar incidents where houses or cars were vandalized.
We're happy, but fearful of what the left will do. See the link below for reports of vicious attacks on Trump supporters that will never be reported by left leaning news outlets.
We're fearful, but we VOTED. Someday maybe the media will admit that the left they're in love with is every bit as violent, racist, and hate filled as the right.
Your side lost, get over it (and don't tell me you don't have a side, your candidate may not have been on the ballot but your 'side' was).
Trump is right to blame the media for stoking the fears of the protesters. I've seen media reports of Jews scared for their life - totally unfounded since Trump's daughter converted to Judaism and his son in law is Jewish. I've seen reports of gays equally afraid, when Trump called out his support of gays at the republican convention.
I'll be happy when tech dirt goes back to railing against the cable companies and bad cops.
Sorry your candidate lost Mike. Take comfort in that, like Reagan before him, Trump will govern better than anyone expects him to. (Which won't be hard since expectation are so, so, so, low.)
I get it, you're so overheated about this election that like most in the press, you can't not comment on things like this. I usually look to techdirt for something more than the same talking points regurgitated by most of the media. Take a deep breath Mike. The election will soon be over and TD can go back to wall to wall coverage of how evil the cops and cable companies are. I can't wait.
Wells Fargo has over 265,000 employees. 5,300 is less than 2 out of every 100 employees. Not to excuse what the bad employees did, which was despicable, but - 2 out of every 100. Can you name any organization where 2% of the employees might NOT be corruptible? Certainly not any government organization and sadly probably not most private corporations either. The path to hell is paved with situational ethics (i.e the company must want us to cheat since the goals are so unreasonable).
SPIN ALERT! You're buying into the democrat's spin that Trump asked Russia to hack Clinton's emails. He was asking them to RELEASE the 30,000 deleted emails that they would have if they had hacked Clinton's email. The FBI couldn't even find those emails and, according to Clinton, they are mostly about yoga classes and weddings, there is really nothing to worry about if they release them.
It's time for a revolution. Internet should be free to everyone, unlimited bandwidth, multi-gigabit speeds. These evil corporations are trying to make money off of other folks' content. The Internet should be free just like electricity, well, I guess electricity's not free and it's pretty heavily regulated. The Internet should be free like air, yeah, except the EPA regulates air quality, but air is still free, so there you go. The Internet should be free (but with a lot of government regulation), just like it is in [insert socialist/communist country here that gives citizens free Internet] - the People's Internet!!! Shame on those dirty filthy corporations for trying to make money off selling me my bandwidth. If they can't follow the rules, I say shut them down. The Government should provide free Internet to everyone, that's the ticket. That's what government is for, just look at the Post Office or Amtrak or even the DMV. Government control works folks, the evidence is overwhelming, the science is settled. We'll be so much better off with the Government in control and the Internet is free and open to any opinion or innovation (as long as you agree with, or at least donate money to, the current regime). Think about it. Could it really be any worse than it is now? We deserve a truly neutered Internet.
The industry's also well aware that third-party set tops will be much more likely to include streaming services that compete with cable, accelerating cord cutting as the nation's Luddites suddenly realize they don't need to pay $150 a month for five hundred channels of garbage they don't actually watch.
Sorry Karl, calling those of us who still subscribe to cable Luddites is a hot load of elitist crap.
Some of us happen to like the content we get over cable/UVerse/satellite AND we subscribe to streaming services for additional content. Yes, we're sick and tired of paying rental on the cable boxes. I dropped DirecTV and will never subscribe again because they extended my contract when I added an additional box. I cancelled cable and went back to UVerse after one week because the cable boxes from Charter were absolute warmed over junk. I'd love to be able to buy my own box to stream/DVR cable.
I agree with the poster that said this will be good for the cable companies by keeping them relevant in an age of cord cutting by including cable content on boxes that offer other streaming services.
It will be good for cable companies if it forces them to offer more channels/bundles individually. I.e. I'd drop 300 channels of worthless junk I never watch if I could get the sports channels I want without them.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Such a non-sequitor
Dude, give it up. You're not going to win an argument in this forum. Unless you support 100% of what they think net neutrality is and the use of regulations designed to regulate the telephone monopolies, you are going to get flamed.
Appreciate the effort and mostly agree with you, but you're not going to convince anyone here. They drank the kool-aid a long time ago. Minds in this forum on this topic are closed for business.
No company is free from incompetent help providing bad advice and I feel for the homeowner who got screwed.
However, if you're in the service area, Charter delivers damn fine internet service. They've always provided more bandwidth than I was paying for and upgraded me to 100Mbs for free. Their customer service is generally excellent (sales people apparently not so excellent).
Their TV service sucks, but their internet is top notch.
Those poor folks in other countries are better off without any Internet than a limited version provided free by Facebook.
Let 'em eat cake! Net Neutrality or nothing at all!
If you agree with all of that, you've probably never visited a 3rd world country. You've had everything given to you and have no idea what it's like to have nothing.
So the link you posted, cleverly offers 'broadband' for FREE as long as you pay a 'line fee of 17.70 pounds' which is only a bit less than what I pay for broadband here in the US except I'm getting 100Mbs speed instead of a lame 17Mbs - which isn't even considered broadband in the US. You've really got it good in the UK!
Anonymous Coward, Sep 9th, 2015 @ 6:19am This is literally exactly how the airline industry actually works, what exactly is this idiot trying to claim?
Really? So granny buys her ticket 3 weeks in advance and pays more than the business flyer who buys his ticket at the last minute? Who knew? Business flyers pay for convenience, granny buys the cheapest ticket she can find.
