There is one really big problem with this idea that will prevent this from ever happening. The problem is that it is "common sense" and that is not allowed within 100 miles of Washington. I would point you to the restraining order but the politicians had that classified and the court records sealed.
This is the kind of page Anonymous needs to use their tools to launch DDOS attacks on. Just suddenly flood their logs with so many IP addresses from all over the world that they have no way of making any sense of it.
Well that was at least the nice thing about the classic gangs. You paid one of them and they would protect you from the others. These modern groups don't have such honor. They shake you down then leave you in the open for the next gang to have a go.
"On the contrary, paying tuition buys the right to sit in a class or office with an expert."
If only this was true, I'm now 20k in debt because of tuition and what did it get me? I can tell you right now that the morons I had for "professors" were hardly experts. I had one that was off his ADHD drugs and told the class that he was too lazy to get more. Another spent the class telling us about beer fest and her crazy relatives. I was taking a programing class and called the professor over to figure out why my code did not want to compile, he looked at it and said "hmm, I don't know, that should work" and walked off.
The school system is just as bad as the copyright system. "Higher education" at this point has turned into a money grab and nothing more. It is impossible to claim otherwise when you sit down and take a serious look at how that system is run.
"the "new business models" still aren't doing it for most people"
You know I have discovered the strangest thing ever. If I never try something then it never works for me.
I just don't understand it. People keep telling me that if I practice Violin that I would be able to play wonderfully. Yet after all these years sitting on my ass not touching a violin I still can't play. This whole "practice" thing is totally not working for me!
Well these news outlets have a serious problem. If they allow their reporters to report on the fly like they have been then they no longer have control over what is news and what is not. This means that big stories like these IP debates and protests might slip out before they could be silenced.
Well of course those ripping customers off the most are the biggest whiners. Wouldn't you whine too if you have been regularly cheating people out of thousands of dollars with ever sale? Suddenly you might actually have to do some honest work and get less money.
No, I don't think Mike is saying they should ignore it. Point is that if you can't go out in public crying about the "poor starving artists" and then turn around and beat the shit out of your artist.
They could have easily handled this without going to this level. It kind of makes them look bad and destroys their claims that they are doing all these things "for the artists".
Pepper spray is just as bad as tazers. What you think happens when you hit someone with asthma in the face with pepper spray? There is a reason they are both called "less lethal", both can kill people.
Slavery is worth than death. There are plenty who feel this way and before long the government is going to find out that many will make a stand. Freedom or death. It is not pretty but that is the direction we are headed in.
I really think it is time we start though. Who is with me on getting a bill passed that bans remakes of old movies without prior approval? This law will also make sequels much more difficult to make unless planned before hand.
They will have to submit a detailed plan to a special comity stating the reasons for remaking a movie along with their plans on how they plan to add anything to it. This submission will have to be made with a $1000 payment for the hassle of looking at their sorry plans. It then goes up for vote on the merits.
Sequels will have a very similar process. I think the fee on that will likely need to be $5000. It will take much higher pay to keep the poor people awake reviewing these plans.
Might I take a moment to point a VERY important thing out here.
SOPA was GOVERNMENT trying to censor the ENTIRE internet.
Twitter is censoring content on THEIR servers.
Twitter as a private company is allowed to do whatever the hell they want with their stuff. It only affects their users. If the users don't like it they can go elsewhere.
SOPA on the other hand was government wanting power over things that do not belong to them. That is extremely different than a company choosing to do something voluntarily with their own servers.
"A website offshore selling to Americans (or pushing downloadable materials) should be subject to the same laws and same restrictions that exist for US businesses."
You do realize how stupid this sounds right? There are TONS of businesses that are not online that do not follow US laws. Why do you think almost all manufacturing is done overseas? You really think companies like shipping things halfway around the globe for the hell of it? NO they do it because the laws there are not as strict.
These laws would not have stopped all these terrible things you are crying about. They would have been abused and greatly hurt the stability of the internet.
I find it funny how people like to attack kickstarter. A lot of the projects up there are artist looking support.
You say they are demanding money or they do nothing. I look at it more of a "I need to eat, give me money to do so and I will make this, if not I will have to get a job"
Very nice and idealistic idea but sadly not possible. How often you see all the countries in the world agree on anything? If you got representatives from every country in the world you would not even be able to get them all to agree that the world is round. Someone would argue just because they want to be different.
Is it just me that finds this entire "kool aid" thing really annoying? Where in the world did the even come from anyways? Not that it really matters where it came from.
I personally will be overjoyed when this is finally declared worn out and is no longer used.
