"Dismiss this juror for cause, your honor?" "Agreed." And back to the juror assembly room you go, to sit and wait and eat stale vending machine snacks...
BTW, the anti-net neutrality comments I found using this search are still vastly outnumbered by people supporting an open internet and/or calling for reclassification under Title II. Apparently RFD-TV has called on its customers to contact the FCC, and they've not limited their comments to the proposed Comcast-TWC merger.
It's not a great system, but I've found a few more interesting entries by going to the full-text search http://apps.fcc.gov/ecfs/solr/search and searching in proceeding 14-28 for keyword "rural" (given that the astroturfing campaign has used the "rural folks will be ruined" form letters before).
There isn't a broadly-accepted legal definition of terrorism, so in practice it's come to mean "violence or intimidation towards a political end that I disagree with or done by people I don't like".
The U.S. war of independence was an illegal violent uprising against an established government to achieve a political goal. I think it was a good goal, but from the perspective of the Loyalists, it could certainly be perceived as terrorism.
the United States does not monitor anyone’s communications in order to suppress criticism or to put people at a disadvantage based on their ethnicity, race, gender, sexual orientation or religion.
So the ethnic and religious slur they put as a "sample identity" in their training document is a just an innocent result of a malfunctioning lorem ipsum generator?
Aw, c'mon, Ken just got back. Let's give him a bit of a break.
I'm guessing this might also attract enough negative public attention that someone at Texas A&M will see, if not reason, at least the PR nightmare. Maybe. I've thought that before and been wrong.
While ARS is not bad, I just don't need an extra helping of global warming UN carbon tax fraud in my cup.
Funny, that's one of the things I like about Ars: The willingness to acknowledge that facts are real regardless of what how we feel about them.
(And yes, I've signed on to the crowdfunding campaign, which just goes to show that Techdirt readers aren't a monolithic group. I'd say that's one more factor that makes the campaign worth supporting...)
Would the authors actually be able (legally, contractually, whatever) to accept this offer from Amazon for their Hatchette-published e-books? Or is this simply a way to prod them into encouraging Hatchette to play nice with Amazon? (It's an interesting approach; I'm just wondering whether it's practically workable.)
Which is point #2. I'd say it's in the public interest to know that the state's highest public school official is not committed to all children in the public schools.
