Hmm, wonder where all those folks threatening lawmakers with guns to 'protect freedom' are now that Trump is actively trying to crush protests using the power of the state... Oh right, either sat at him tweeting Blue/White/All lives matter, or attending protests with weapons to try and instigate violence so they can hurt minorities, liberals and the poor.
Isn't it nice to know that the price of a human life in some people's eyes is only $20? And by nice I mean utterly horrific. They took a human life for a sum of money that wouldn't even buy him a decent pair of shoes, think about that for a moment before trying to blame the victim.
The 'Oh he was a criminal' cries from the right remind me of when the police in Dallas leaked the fact Botham Jean had a few grams of cannabis in his home for personal use to try and smear him in a monstrous attempt justify an offduty officer walking into his home and murdering him.
It's become plain to see that peaceful protests are the thoughts and prayers of political change, something people call for others to do when they absolutely do not want to change things in any meaningful way.
When they happen, they are applauded and once they're over, their goal is completely ignored by people in power. If they persist longer than the authorities want, everyone involved will get smeared throughout the media with even those who claim to lean left bothsidesing it and reporting propaganda, see the occupy protests, anti war protests, anti brexit protests...
Hooray, the first stretch of the two lane internet is opening! Welcome to the Ajit Pai expressway, folks he'll be along shortly to cut the ribbon via Zoom once he's finished arranging for the tollbooths to be installed to make sure you pay for every mile.
The Zoom bandwidth will count towards your broadband cap so don't spend too long watching.
Private prisons are a parasite that feeds on the misery of the poor and minorities. Netflix could produce a twelve episode animated series featuring their CEOs curbstomping puppies and it still wouldn't damage their reputation any more than the reality of what they do.
You put poor people in cages for profit and try to do so for as little money as possible.
Facebook will never willingly do a thing that will cost them money, the sooner people realise that the better. They would not put neutral parties in a position to set company policy and will never, ever act in the interest of the greater good until people do more than simply ignoring Uncle Qberts Qanon conspiracies and targeted political hit pieces from the latest spiritual successor to Cambridge Analytica and start boycotting advertisers or leaving the service.
At this point, it's fairly safe to say that conservative claims of bias against them is not born from anything approaching reality given how Facebook, Youtube and Twitter have bent over backwards to avoid applying their rules to high profile bigots, only acting when the public backlash becomes too much to bear.
Conservatives will cry Anti-Conservative/White/Christian bias until the internet is actively stifling left wing viewpoints as anything less than complete dominance and the ability to silence reality itself will never be enough. We're dealing with people who look back on the red menace era of American history with nostalgia, the constant wars to overthrow anyone remotely left wing, the Hoover FBI and McCarthy being able to ruin careers with smears to drive the country right through fear and intimidation.
One of the few upsides to America losing its standing under Trump is countries will be less willing to accept horrendous clauses like this in future treaties, and lawsuits filed as a result of protecting the wellbeing of citizens won't help either.
He's also reneged on treaty after treaty and sits with his arms crossed like a sulky toddler whenever he's challenged. He cosies up to autocrats, sucks up to dictators all the while alienating America's traditional allies. The western world will never trust America again after this, because agreements are worthless when you're potentially four years away from another Trump.
They're hoping that if they can block community broadband, eventually a democrat president will pay them to start expanding rural broadband as part of a 'compromise' infrastructure stimulus bill with Republicans. They get free money and get to expand their fiefdoms.
'Don't behave like rich, condescending, jackbooted thugs.' - Ted Cruz, with an estimated net worth of $3,198,068 in 2018, the same Ted Cruz who supports the death penalty, called supporters of same sex marriage liberal fascists, shared a stage with someone who called for gays to be put to death, supported the USA Freedom Act reauthorisation of the Patriot act.... And so on.
He's got a track record of doing this, he only ran for office because Obama made a joke about him after years of parroting racist conspiracy theories and one of his main goals is to undo everything he did while president, from the ACA to national parks. He's a petty, petty man with skin as thin as the fat soaked paper bag he so resembles.
The numbers of people who actually participated in the pot, peace and love in aspect of the 60s and 70s is hugely overstated. Many participated in anti war protests, sure, but that doesn't make them hippies, just people who didn't want to be sent off to die. Most of the Trumper boomers are either the children of the rich that avoided the draft like Captain Bonespurs, or working class whites who got jobs that went nowhere, never left their small towns then retired after their industries collapsed, feeling embittered at a world that left them behind and looking for someone to blame for never having lived their lives... Fortunately republicans are there to provide them with an endless stream of 'others' and a morbidly obese orange clown to punch down on them.
This nonsense is why I think people should be more afraid of Trump's executive order. The Trump admin have spent the past few years pumping raw sewage into the court system, from the supreme court down so common sense and the actual letter of the law may not be enough to get legal rulings that go against conservatives given how many utterly unqualified partisans have been given lifetime appointments in lower courts. These people will keep filing suits until they find a venue and judge who rules their way, and that's more likely than ever now, and if it gets appealed as far as the supreme court, the past few decades have shown they can't be relied upon to do what's right when a bad decision will benefit republicans.
As Fox news have proven, there's more money in bulls**t than there is in truth and as long as that's the case, Zuckerberg and facebook will continue to support it while, pretending to be neutral. 'We can't be held responsible for any of the damage we've caused as we accept money from honest people as well as liars, it's not our fault liars have more of it.'
Unlike the Obama era, where you had Fox News trying to create scandals for the entire length of both terms, their hosts organising political rallies against him and gave airtime to any and all conspiracy theories no matter how racist and utterly braindead they were.
In the UK they started running adverts for Amazon warehouse tours prior to the 'rona, after a lot of horrendous PR over their treatment of workers. I guess buying journalists is more cost effective and less disruptive than running a few warehouse shifts a week as Jurassic park with serfs instead of dinosaurs.
Damn that Obama! Bush left him a booming economy, banking and automotive industries going from strength to strength, tax revenue that hadn't been slashed by idiotic lopsided tax cuts to benefit republican donorz and zero massively expensive, unwinnable wars... Oh wait.
Kris Kobach (Thoroughly discredited voter fraud witchfinder general). J. Christian Adams (Voter ID law advocate), Hans von Spakovsky (Dubyah recess appointment to the FEC who weaponised the system to disenfranchise voters, also pushed to try and stop any democrats being appointed to the panel at all), Connie Lawson (Secretary of state that defended indiana's illegal voter purges)... The panel was stacked against democrats in terms of numbers of representatives and power, still didn't find what they wanted to find. They disbanded rather than share information with democratic members after a court ordered them to do so.
They created the legion of doom and STILL couldn't get the result they wanted.
