Mike's statement: Even worse, it appears he's racist, calling someone "Chinese" for criticizing him. Bok's rant: Are you Chinese? Come up with something on your own. Personally, I don't believe what Bok said was racist, I think it's based on the fact that China has a reputation for producing the most counterfeit goods in the world. I formed this opinion after carefully reading the above line from the rant in context.
This is a horrific copyright ruling that suggests that songs that merely have a similar feel may be infringing. Absolutely. Unless Robin Thicke and Pharrel Williams do appeal and win, then every four chord song ever released over the past few decades could be deemed to be infringing with only dead lyricists and composers benefiting from this ruling.
Dear Tumblr Trust & Safety, It's important for all creators that others respect copyright laws, and so I ask that you take greater care when passing on Cease and Desist notices over perfectly legal and non-infringing fair uses of copyrighted content. Yours, a supporter of roruz ras.
Except that the perjury charge would only apply if I was claiming that the work I wanted pulled down was either mine or that of a person I represent when it isn't. That's why I was careful to state that I'm neither J.K. Rowling nor her representative when getting an infringing copy of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone pulled from the Internet Archive (to prevent the site being shut down).
There is a case for discarding the term "rape" in order to free ourselves from this history. The only problem would be to find an alternative that conveys the same degree of seriousness. What about 'sexual contact without consent' for the cases without violence, and straight up 'sexual assault' for those cases where violence was used. Also, the terms I used would be the legal definitions so a woman can finally be charged if she sits on a drunk guy's dick.
So republish the information in the papers from 95 years and earlier ago. The papers may be locked up, but the knowledge isn't, and US copyright term is 'only' 95 years.
This is why I highlight and search Elsevier article titles, just in case there's a better (exact same for free) version elsewhere. Sharp practice like this is so depressingly common that it's been necessary for all of my online life.
Dear Mr. Putin, I thank you for your invitation to the new social network you are interested in, but I must respectfully decline. You see, I have enough of a job on preventing others doxxing me without making their illegal task easier by laying out all my personal info on a plate, as it were. Yours sincerely, this Techdirt AC.
According to the Student Legal Services Operational Plan, Student Legal Services can only represent eligible students who have cases in or originating in Champaign County. Since the alleged cause of action occurred on my client's PC here in Champaign County...

We have to get rid of Net Neutrality, otherwise self-driving cars will keep on crashing into each other. If the above were true, Rajeev Suri (which it isn't), then isn't promotion of Net Neutrality what's needed to ensure the fast signals that you believe are required for self-driving cars? FYI, self-driving cars use cameras, other sensors, and a self-contained computer to get around. If they're crashing, it's not because they can't access the Internet or because they've been hacked, it's because they weren't self-driving when the crash occurred (since laws in some areas don't allow them to be) and old-fashioned human error came into play. Simples!
