Overly critical?! I don't think people are critical enough. I love the US and the government *system*, but we have lost control of the government, partially due to our own fault, but in no small part due to greed and legal bribery known as lobbying, and due to people like you, who make excuses for the government no matter how egregious its actions.
It may also be that individuals working inside the record companies are operating on their own and making choices that the record company as a whole does not approve of. They may be playing loose and fast with company assets to buy themselves credibility or to do what the artist wants to do, even if it is against their contract.
Wouldn't that make it innocent infringement, a civil offense, which the government has no business enforcing?

Just asking questions isn't grandstanding. These are questquestions that should have been answered by someone before any of these seizures happened, so it should be easy to answer them.
Why pay for cable if the shows are free online at the network's site?
I don't know what magical place you live in, but here in Boston we pay for the internet. So, nothing is any more free online than it is via cable TV. I'm tired of the "free" Internet argument.
I don't know, I'm not much of a back catalog kind of guy. I'm sure it works for you, but I see no reason to wait 28 days after they release it when it is available from other methods 14 days *before* they release it. (If not more!)
Don't make me rub your nose in it. I will, so help me.
You can not prevent piracy! Where is the damn flash tag when I need it? You can't. It's impossible. Ever since fucking dollar you spend trying to stop it is a wasted effort.
There are people who *want* exactly what Nick described. We have the money, we're waiting to give it to the first group who can give us that. This is hollywood's Napster moment. They can give us exactly what we want, while we're still willing to pay for it, or they can fight and someone will create an unauthorized site that gives it to us, and we will be so accustomed to getting what we want for free that they will struggle to get us to pay for anything at all.
I really really really want to give them money, but they don't want it. I almost never go to the theater, and if I do, even if I had the movie on my computer in HD, I would still go see it in the theater. I refuse to pay $5 (or whatever it is now) to watch one movie, one time via On Demand. I really like the Netflix or Hulu streaming options, but the selection is limited and waiting 28 days is just stupid.
The recording industry is finally starting to wake up by working with services like Spotify, Mog, Rdio, and Grooveshark (maybe not on GS?) and other such sites. Are these over-paid executives really so dense that they don't understand what's going on? I will go down the path of least resistance, and *ANY* obstacle they put between me and what I want only serves to drive me to a less legal, but also more convenient, option.
Streaming NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB games without permission is a violation of both US and WIPO law.
It should be pointed out that the site in question was found legal in Spain because it doesn't actually host anything, it just makes it easier to find what you're looking for. You know, like Google.
It doesn't matter what some Spanish kangaroo court says.
So, US laws should apply *over* Spanish laws in Spain? You should take a moment to think because you type such foolish things.
I try and analyze things from all sides, especially the ones I don't agree with.
Then let's see it. Argue the defense of a legal Spanish site having it's domain stolen by ICE at the behest of the NFL for the Super Bowl. Explain to me how that has *any* function other than to cast doubt on the reliability of any ICANN domain?
Being a good lawyer means being able to argue all sides.
Odd, I've ever seen you argue any other side but the one you usually argue. Oh, wait, that does make sense, after all.
People that post opposing views on techdirt are shunned and called names, and that's too bad.
Please don't make me dig through all your old posts and point out name calling you've done. Selective memory, much? Not to mention, calling something FUD when it isn't is as much name calling as anything else. When you live in a glass house you shouldn't throw black kettles. Or something like that.
