Screw Neilsen. Another old guard company struggling to hold on to it's relevance. Who cares who watches what? Only the idiots at the networks looking to pad the bill more.
@Mike: You are a writer of good news articles. But you are definitely not a businessman. Duh! Protect your brand! Watch your affiliates like a hawk. Watch your ASS or LOSE it. One should have a monitoring program in place and in my experience you need to monitor the monitor.
So why are you surprised? The system is based on English Parliamentary crap so no wonder they're crooked. Also the caste / class system means the class above yours can demand anything they like.
I had an Indian Landlord once that was going through a divorce. His wife was going to get the property I lived in and came banging on the door one morning demanding entrance. So I told her to go suck an egg. She couldn't stand it, she called the cops and they wouldn't come. She could not understand how a mere renter could deny her entrance to her own property. I told her welcome to America and go home before I sue her for harassment. Finally the police did come but because she was harassing me. She finally got the message. I can only imagine what the Indian parliament is like. A bunch of whiny overprivileged assholes that expect the rest of the country to bow down because they are a lower caste.
The days of the dramatic headline and the kid on the corner hawking it is over and will sell no more papers. Thanks God. No more bullshit just to sell papers. I don't feel even a little bit guilty.
I quote from Victoria Espinel who has come out with the White House's recommendations on intellectual property enforcement. 'Ensure that, in appropriate circumstances, infringement by streaming, or by means of other similar new technology, is a felony;'
A felony? Where's the law for that statement? What is considered appropriate circumstances? Who decides what is infringement?
Are they trying to shut down internet radio and broadcasting now? Are they making streaming a crime?
That is my business, Hosting and Streaming. All of my streamed internet radio stations pay ASCAP, BMI and SESAC and those payments create a loss for that station. Every station I host loses money paying the powers that be. Even non-profit stations with no advertising have to pay.
I also stream original Rock Bands and they have streams going of music that I know for positive hasn't been registered with either 1 of the 3. It is indie music and is being streamed by the owner of that music. No RIAA! They weren't invited to the party. We didn't even invite ASCAP and the other assholes who keep saying pay, pay and none of the artists we talk to ever get a penny.
We also stream live concerts and we don't ask if they paid the right people. We will refer any lawsuit to the actual offender.
It's ridiculous that we would be held responsible for anything any of our customers broadcast. We can only monitor or shut off the stream. We don't record it and we make customers use FTP to upload their programs for any storage. This is Private FTP. No one else gets access to that information unless it is given out by the user.
This kind of rhetoric from the government is extremely scary at a time of such economic uncertainty. We have / had plans for capital investments of hardware and software this year and now are considering that maybe we had better wait until the government makes up it's collective mind on what the rules are. We have / had plans to increase our server capacity with new technology. This will also provide new jobs in our area. Since we are a company owned and operated by disabled people we will hire people that have disabilities first.
Isn't this the same way we in America treat our prisoners in Guantanamo? Strip them naked. Humiliate them. I saw Criminal Minds. Looked like business as usual to me. Totally justified my thoughts that the government is not to be validated in any form. They are out of control and don't answer to me or anyone else in this country. With Homeland Security doing whatever they feel like to whoever they feel like, whenever they feel like. I am afraid and went and loaded my gun and am going to pack it with me wherever I go. Stay away from the Government. Don't even go near their buildings, I want nothing to do with any party of thieves. They do not represent me or the people of the United States. They have become incredibly dangerous to their own citizens and need to be stopped. But the population of America is so apathetic and wrapped up in their little apples they don't have a clue. Their very laws and actions make the common man a criminal.
I hate AT&T because they are traitors to the very people they milk. Them being in bed with Homeland Security with censorship, monitoring us and profiling us. Screw AT&T if they die I would be very happy. I hope the competition chokes them to death. AT&T SUCKS. They have horrible service, horrible equipment and a bunch of wazoos running it. Please don't buy it. I would do without internet if AT&T was the only choice. Better yet. I'd move somewhere else.
I say bring on the RIAA. We will treat them like we do drug pushers in my neighborhood. 'Stab 'em if they stand. Shoot 'em if they run.' The RIAA has ruined the music business. No one wants to buy s**t from those assholes or anyone they represent.
I just turned 64 and I was taught the second method. We memorized our multiplication tables from 2 through 9. We were even taught a great trick by our 4th grade teacher on how to do 9's fast. They numbers in the answer add up to 9.
You know 1*9 = 9 or 9 + 0 = 9, 2*9 = 18 or 1 + 8 = 9, 3*9 = 27 or 2 + 7 = 9, 4*9 = 36 or 3+6=9, etc. Works up to 9*.
We were also taught something else that is starting to catch on again. We call it Mental Math. You approximate the answer first and then solve the problem, or you approximate the entire process and come to the answer quicker. That way you are always working with what you know and are more confident. I taught that method to my kids and they all excelled in math. Even with having immigrant Indian teachers who don't speak English very well.
As an Artist and Songwriter I still want 2 copyrights.
1. for me. It will be my Creative Copyright which I always keep. I own it. It is my recognition from the world that I created this. This copyright is passed on to my heirs. Come on let's be fair. Why make it public domain which negates who actually created it? I didn't ask for money only recognition forever for MY creation. I did it, not Public Domain after 99 years. My children and their children have proof that their relative did it and passed it on to them.
2. The Commercial Copyright. This is sold and is for sale as long as someone wants to buy it. No more exclusivity and having to form shell companies just to control your own work. This will create another industry which is the management and sales of Copyrighted Content that will be used in a Commercial manner. This copyright exists only when it is contracted.
Both Copyrights are listed with the government so there is no mistake who did what. This crap about you used my lick, my line, my words has to stop. It is stifling creativity and will make this country fail.
We in America are the creators of the world! Period. Everyone else copies us. Got it. We create the gadgets, write the software, make the movies and create the music that the rest of the world wants. We can't lose. Everybody copies us. Even the Muslim chicks with their headdresses wear Jeans. Who invented Jeans? Americans.
