I was at first a bit Skeptical and Cynical about the decision by the Obama Administration to interfere with the process but I did some other reading and found this great break down of the whole dispute
It's really bad when you think that a knockoff might be the place to protect the freedom of information. Forget the other things that are a side effect of freedom, like piracy.
I hope Snowden goes to work for them and then helps them protect info from the Russian Government.
So very sad that a place of freedom of information is now in the place of so much in terms of totalitarianism. And the US is falling behind that place.
Re: NEITHER of the sides are going to serve the public interest.
Wow, wow, wow OOTB you are just plain old fashioned stupid. I AM a content producer and content provider.
Tech has allowed me to offer my product (as that is all music or video or anything else is) to a much larger audience.
I made more money when CD's came out and less when they started to wane. I earned more money when downloads became the venue and less as other options became available.
But each time I did change to adapt to what is current.
Any dinosaur that did not stop the hostage situation imposed on their musicians should go bye-bye.
This comment like yours is off topic but it like all of your uninformed comments requires an answer. So why should someone pay for something they do not find value in?
I find value in buying a song for $.99 cents - $1.29 but I don't in buying 16 songs I don't know for $19.99.
In the world of technology I spend $1.29 to buy one song that I liked. In your world I had to decide if I wanted the whole album. And I would have said no as I did for years.
Censorship is about not allowing someone to express their views. Mike and Techdirt never edit anyone's comments. They present them as they are entered and allow us the people that read the Blog (not a news site or factual disseminator)to decide what we want to view.
Your comments were viewed as not discussing the topic but instead expressing your not popular (on this blog) view and dislike of Mike Masnick.
So as I did I can find your comment and comment on it without any issue.
Unlike a true dictator which would never allow a dissenting comment to be available for comment I could find and express this view on your failed thoughts.
Please become a thinking person. Don't just follow doctrine.
Sorry but the "public" can only donate in small amounts!!
Mike, Mike, Mike... You are so smart but yet so naive!!!
The public is a vast non-cohesive entity that votes on Dance talents, and Voice performances and donates their spare buck when they are confronted with an aggressive campaigner.
The content providers spend almost as much to protect their illegal monopoly as 100 million voters do. So who do you think the bought and paid for Congress will vote with?
Even I can look at the world and say hey this dufus is going to help me earn 10 times what I can get in a normal job and for that help I will do what I can to help them. You scratch my ass and I will scratch yours. Not an unreasonable request.
I am sad, very sad that Snowden should feel the need...
Where is the person that can say the US is willing to try the person in a constitutionally defined legal proceeding and present the proper due process in convicting him?
Look I know some secrets need to be kept secret but some do need to be blasted to the world to let all people know what is happening.
Snowden might be one of the greatest patriots of our time. For showing to the all of us in the US and the world what BS is happening in our names and by the people we think we elected to represent what is best for all of us.
It is so clear to anyone now that the US prefers access to all information at all times. Constitution be damned. Foreign laws are not worthy of consideration. Fuck them and the governments that created them.
The US police state wants to know and your rights shall not infringe on that want to know.
Americans have long suspected our government (those not beholden to it) are doing a lot more than they say they are doing. But Snowden has shown us proof we can not ignore or deny. Unless we benefit from it.
We should all thank Snowden and support him in any way we can so that a person that wants us the US to become a better country not a police state does not become a victim of a clearly over-reaching government.
I think it would be cool to issue badges to those people that get Most something in a week. Make it a numbered badge. Just a thought. Something that make those people feel like they earned something but offering their opinion.
Obama-The President of platitudes. Change!!! Hope!!!
I am proud that we as country elected a person of non white origin but sad that we picked someone so dedicated to making sure the government would run our lives. Forever. Slavery is not just a physical state. It is a mental binding and forced life choice that you are not allowed to chose.
What is the Obama care but a loss of choice? Or a forced case of being required to do as the government requires. Prove me wrong. Show me the loopholes?
