I agree. In this fast paced world where a song can be pumped out to everybody who wants to hear it immediately, with very little distribution cost, if you can't monetize an individual bit of creativity in seven years, you're doing it wrong. The government-supported welfare system for already over-rich rights-holding corporations is hampering innovation and slowly strangling our culture.
Drop by drop the lifeblood of our culture is being drained into a huge cauldron, stirred by the giant beasts who only grow stronger with each death of a musical note that can no longer be heard.
That's not a parody site? Click through to some of the "Photographic Chronicle"-ing of Florida life. It's kind of funny. Especially the out of focus shots.
"I gotta pay the bills."??? The website is 80% ads ..
Lock it up! Control it! Control who hears it! And how! and when! And how much they pay for it! And how they can hear it! And for how long! And in what format! And how they can use it!(They can't!) And who they can share it with! (Nobody!) The song is property! Our property! We decide!! We decide what you want!!!
Gene Simmons is an idiot who doesn't even know how he got rich. Who ever listened to kiss records for the musical expression or subtle, nuanced performances? Love Gun? Are you kidding me? kiss have always been about the live show. Teenybopper kids sharing their albums with their friends so they could memorize the lyrics for when they went to the show. And buying all the kiss branded dolls, T-shirts, kiss make-up kits etc. kiss gets away with this crap because their fans let them. That world is changing.
The bigger point here is that they are securing the copyright to distribute the movies. Therefore, any downloading is authorized since they made it available. And isn't making available what file sharers have been fined millions of dollars for? Isn't this copyfraud in the most literal sense? How can this possibly be legal?
Oh, and while we're on the subject .. Who says figuring out a way for a contributor to appear in the movie or in the marketing material for the movie has to "compromise" the product? Advertising is content, and content is advertising. But that doesn't work for you "All or Nothing" guys, does it?
Good point. "You don't get to double dip this time, but just wait - Surely someone will innovate some new service that makes the crappy experience of streaming music slightly less crappy, and then we'll figure out a way that it violates the hokey law we made to protect your dying business model. Don't send those lawyers home just yet."
I love this quote from the article: 'The law at issue defines an interactive service as a service "that enables a member of the public to receive a transmission of a program specially created for the recipient, or on request, a transmission of a particular sound recording ... which is selected by or on behalf of the recipient."
In his 42-page opinion for the appeals court, Judge Richard Wesley said the U.S. Congress enacted the law because previous laws did not do enough to protect sound recording copyright holders from falling record sales.'
This is the mandate of our elected representatives? Taking away citizens' rights to prop up failing businesses? Glad I didn't pay attention in Civics class in high school. I'd be really conflicted ..
