Because of the partisanship of our Congress, Eric Cantor tried to user this in October to affect the election.
I find it amazing that Republicans would stoop so low but they hanger always tried to sabotage elections for personal gain since Nixon sabotaged the 68 elections by destroying the Vietnam peace accord.
We are more than a constitutional federation of states. We had that battle during the Civil War. We ate a public commonwealth which means we do what the people decide, not the states. Something to allow more people to have access to democracy is not a bad thing and I find that to be a questionable view to hold.
The Founding Fathers were not perfect and thought the Constitution to be a living document for all to change as need be to ensure a better union. Taking away the rights of the people to hold their Senators accountable through direct democracy will just make them more readily available to state special interests and that would be a horrible solution for all.
James Madison stated in Federalist Paper 10 the horrors of our electoral system. He warned the US not to form factions when he did so for his own run for the presidency. I wish it weren't so, but people join in groups and form communities of like minded individuals. That's what it means to be a social creature. We enjoy learning the best news about the interests we like. Factions will happen. What the US has desperately needed is a recognition of those factions in the political system. Sadly, Duverger wasn't born in the time of the Revolution. He learned from it when he created proportional representation.
Brin should point out how gerrymandering leads to "safe" elections for some candidates. He should point out that our electoral college is a horrible system for electing a president from a time long outdated. He should point out how hard it is to get fair representation without a media that tries to call everything down the middle.
He has a number of valid arguments to make. He doesn't have to read in the footsteps of James Madison in regards to reforming the system. We just need a new one that better represents the populace.
Here's the problem. Since 2000, voting machines have had a hasn't red shift. That should not happen. Neither should it be possible to privatize the vote, which is what the judge has done.
No matter the technology, your vote should count. Now it's too easy to change the vote totals from Jon Husted's office into a Romney victory.
This is just the same as Bush v Gore... Get the vote totals close enough them take the election for themselves.
That's just it... This is about gathering information on everyone in the guise of security.
I just recently heard about Canada having an issue in regards to sharing information through the airport stops. This started with America and has not stopped. The info is given to law enforcement to collect a profile of everyone.
The naked scanners are used to see how you look. They can then link up aol of the information about you through Stellar wind and the NSA. Meanwhile, we know nothing of their plans save to lock up everyone with the Espionage Act and the NDAA who speak out of turn.
It's stunning to see so many dots that connect in such a manner...
So Holder allows sharing of information in law enforcement, the NSA compiles the data and the TSA figures out where you are going and who is is in your circle of influence. Not only do these people want to know all sorts of information about you, they want to suppress those that would change the system.
The media doesn't tell the story and we're left with a government that ignores the 4th Amendment.
Meanwhile, if you have enough money, you can bypass security, but even then, we are moving closer to a police state. Now I know what the Robber Baron Era feels like...
No, I don't like everything BO had done for Hollywood. But we have a choice between MR who is a serial liar our BO that can actually admit that corporations are not people and money is property, not speech.
MR changes positions more than a prostitute on the 4th of July. He wants war in Iran and owns the voting machines used in Texas, Colorado, Georgia, and other states.
He well say ANYTHING to get elected. The Republicans have lost their right to hold Congress because they do NOT represent the majority of people. That is the point here. Sure, Democrats have their problems but Republicans are hideous for a number of reasons.
What is most treasonous is how Republicans (since BO's inauguration) swore a blood oath to not work for the good of the nation. Darrell Issa represents the worst of that trend. He sacrificed Libyan assets just to embarrass the president. But he won't make whistleblowing stronger our talk about Julian Assange in a positive light.
That's the key issue here. I recognize that there are more Democrats who believe in more liberal positions. Just saying "a plague on both their houses" ignores the fact that even if both parties are bad, one is MUCH worse for the nation going forward.
The USG believes that a whistleblower just outed someone...
When Darrell Issa does the same thing and puts Libyans in jeapardy. Further, Julian Assange has an indictment in the US against him for nothing more than being a journalist with integrity.
I want two things here:
First, ALL Republicans should be out of office because they've done the exact same things that lead to the FIRST Republican Depression.
Second, I want my democracy back. Not this plutocracy where journalists and people with a conscience are punished for doing the right thing.
Is that so much to ask for that we don't get a rich elite who control the police and try to turn us into the fall of the Roman Empire?
Is it so much to understand that this revolving door needs to be closed and of the 2 million in prison, we need to lock up some of the worst of the lobbyists and "congressmen" who decide to abuse their station for personal gain?
Just recently, I bought the Game of Thrones Season 1. On the first disc is damn near twenty minutes of ads for ALL of HBO's programming. Unskippable. Unalterable. Unfavorable. Unbeatable.
So the next season? I already have it. No ads. Watch any time I want.
By the way, I bought the first season at a pawn shop for half the price. So HBO got no money from me. They just showed me why I won't pick up any of their series from them because they believe in showing me add on MY dvds of THEIR show.
So which is the worst offense? My commitment to not being treated like a criminal or my use of the First Sale Doctrine to get a cheaper price?
Ok... That's cool. How do you set up a coop here in the US? I could do wish more people would look into better news reporting here in the US. Having only six media outlets for people to discuss the news is rather limiting.
