It's only a matter of time until a supercar is equipped with a DNA reader instead of a key fob or fingerprint reader. It's only a matter of time until we hear of cloud-connected supercars picking up malware. The two technologies mix.
Soon after, Jeremy Clarkson tries one out. And so begins the next reboot of Planet of the Apes.
A recent study found that 20 per cent of sausages sampled from grocery stores across Canada contained meats that weren't on the label. Including horse meat. Meanwhile, DNA tests showed Subway chicken sandwiches could contain just 50% chicken. The majority of the remaining DNA was from soy.
Companies are already putting web browsers and grocery list apps and whatnot in refrigerators. We may be just one manufactured scare and sales pitch away from gene sequencers too. And Russia using your fridge to attack the Baltic States.
Apparently the powers that be in Coral Gables are not fans of free speech if it involves people disagreeing with their decisions... as it appears they're a bunch of thin skinned bullies who can't take even the slightest criticism...
Call the CDC. The criticism immunodeficiency virus is spreading south from Mar-a-Lago.
The west helped overthrow Gaddafi because waves of refugees from his regime were arriving on European shores. He became a problem that they HAD to deal with whether they liked it or not.
If Kim opens the borders and lets waves of refugees through to China, South Korea or Japan, you'll see the same thing.
They should at least be consistent on some of the common stuff.
A decade or so ago a bunch of us in a local forum were discussing bike riding habits.
I was taught way back in elementary school - in a bicycle safety class taught by a uniformed police officer - that you should ride in the center of the lane. It's your lane, and a car should pass you as if they're passing another car. Others in the forum had been taught to ride in the center or right "rut."
The one thing everyone could agree on was that the worst place was right up against the curb. Debris and sewer grates could throw you in front of traffic.
So someone had the bright idea to walk over to the police station and ask.
The officer at the desk told him that the right "rut" was the correct place to ride. At which point her superior came out of his office at stated that he'd issue a fine to anyone he caught riding there. It was up against the curb, or not at all.
If police can't agree on a common issue like that...
This reminds me of a common point about tech patents that gets made here: If X isn't patentable, then "X... With a computer!" should also not be patentable.
"Employee opposes diversity efforts at his company" isn't a tech story. That it happened at a tech company doesn't change that.
You remind me of all the '80s NRA literature and other claims from the far right that that Nelson Mandela and others opposing apartheid were communists. If Mandela were released and apartheid abolished, South Africa would instantly become a communist state.
For your crowd, ANY support for civil rights is "leftist" and "communist."
While there are setbacks like Trump, Bannon, Gorka and their neo-Nazi - sorry, "alt-right" - followers, civil rights keeps winning.
True, but those "Official Junk Food / Soft Drink of the 2024 Olympics" labels and related "athlete" endorsements will suddenly have a lot more credibility.
Your justification works for Russia or China. "So here is the quandary. If a year from now America launches nukes and hits Moscow, Leningrad, Winnipeg (don't ask) and Vladivostok, a pre-emptive strike sounds like a great idea. Killing Trump before he starts WWIII."
Lest you think the responses here seem a little too focused on the Old Testament, I'll point out that when the US turned into a torture state, Christians had no problem using even the New Testament to justify it. One such instance I thought worth saving:
I'm sure Christ would torture innocent people to selfishly save those he loved too. He always said, put your family first, and screw everybody else. In fact, at Gethsemane, he said "Do whatever it takes, no matter how vile, to keep those you care about from dying."
Jesus can be your torturer/killer in small conflicts...
In September 2009, a judge in Stuart, Fla., was about to sentence pastor Rodney McGill for real estate fraud, but McGill was undaunted, addressing a courtroom prayer for his enemies: "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, for every witness called against me, I pray cancer in their lives, lupus, brain tumor, pancreatic cancer." The judge then sentenced him to 20 years in prison. [South Florida Sun-Sentinel, 9-9-09]
Or you can invoke him to justify something rather larger:
The mandatory Nuclear Ethics and Nuclear Warfare session, which includes a discussion on St. Augustine's "Christian Just War Theory," is led by Air Force chaplains and takes place during a missile officer's first week in training at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.
You mean other than witches, fortune tellers, homosexuals, people who don't listen to priests, children who strike a parent, children who curse a parent, adulterers, fornicators, non-believers, followers of other religions - including their entire town even it's just one follower...

...false prophets, blasphemers, scammers, anyone who approaches the tabernacle without authorization, people who work on the Sabbath, anyone who looks into the ark of Jehovah - and the nearest fifty thousand men when they do so...

...the children of sinners, the women and children of enemies, the first-born of Egypt, the old men and young women and children and babies of Babylon, the Philistines, Jericho and all the men, women and children in it, the same for Benjaminites....

...while want to block conservatives from college venues?
Citation?
And even if your claim were true - as opposed to twisting the facts all to hell to pretend it's true - it would still not apply. Supporting a private venue when they say "we don't want to be associated with this" is NOT the same as a government official placing demands on who a private venue associates with.
By The Right Honourable Mayor's Right Honourable logic, financial crimes and banking fraud would probably go down if Microsoft policed the use of Excel.
Spreadsheet (v.) The distribution of manure. (n.) A tool widely regarded as the cause of the savings & loan crisis of the 1980's. It allowed users to run "what if" scenarios, but lacked a feature telling "why not".
True, such cases are often won by outspending the victim. But this is HBO, not some blogger. They have deep pockets, and approved kicking the ant's nest ahead of time.
Your last claim doesn't work either. As noted above, putting it in front of a jury in WV would not be the best thing for Bob at this point. The judge will likely be impartial (which is bad for Bob), but the jury may be hostile.
