  A Step Backwards

  on China Centralizes The Great Firewall Into Single Censorship Body
  This will be a major role in The Great Firewall's downfall. The fact that there were different agencies dedicated to keeping the firewall up and running made it twice as hard to take down and get past. Now that its going to managed by one agency all it will take will be one or two major leaks to enable more people to get through it. There's already many projects dedicated to getting around and breaking through the firewall, I wouldn't be surprised if they already have someone working on the inside waiting for the right moment. Then again an distributed DNS solution would make the firewall useless.

  Banhof should be applauded for this. I can see other ISP's following suite as more governments try to pressure them into keeping logs and giving up their customers info. I'm interested in seeing if Banhof profits from this somehow. If I was a person interested in using their considerable computer skills to perform considerably illegal actions (whether or not the action is for profit or to make a statement), I would want an ISP who encrypts their inbound and outbound traffic or, at the very least their logs.

  on Will Google's New Hamfisted Censorship On Autocomplete Raise Questions Of Human Meddling?
  Blocking a few specific words in order to stop hundreds of millions of people from downloading infringing materials is like letting the air out of your tires every morning to stop car jacker's. Eventually they'll just bring an air pump or a tow truck. Google isn't stopping a thing and they know it.
