I don't disagree with anything in the article, just one observation. Techdirt's own Karl Bode wrote hundreds of articles about why caps are stupid. A single article published on Vice and all of a sudden things are getting done...
Just food for thought.
Horse poop. My company has not 1 but 2 10g links, They are pricy, but the cost could easily be recouped with few hundreds of subs.
As for download caps - even worse horse manure - throttle your worse offenders and run some very basic QoS. It's not that hard to do very basic traffic management without caps
is mainly lies with money - they estimate that cost of maintaining and power usage of old cable plants will higher than cost of fiber upgrades over (I assume) short timeframe. So Altice latest FTTPR is not about their consumers getting better internet service, but company saving money in long run./div>
Unless someone tells me otherwise, I'm going to assume it's same old issue. None-MS OS devices using some soft of FAT emulation to connect to PC (Mass-storage), but depite the fact FAT file system is "ancient" it's still not free and guess who the owner is ;)
Any device maker who uses Mass-Storage is liable to pay MS unless we user say - enough - we are ready to install some drivers to our PC and the hell with MS patented fat/div>
My best guess all android and other Linux mobile devices still use fat file systems (at least presented as such , while in Mass Storage Mode) to allow users to exchange files with their PC's, which are vast majority Windows. If they'd use not-Microsoft file system then driver installation would be required and much less desirable on the end user.
Unfortunately there is no way around this/div>
I think if HP would have the smarts about it - they should price the first model at these prices, release the SDK and work closely and friendly with developers, Offer better cut - say 80/20 and don't be greedy and don't require (or much smaller) cut from content/subscriptions like fruit company did and lost any revenues from them.
Then MAYBE, just MAYBE they had a chance to sell Touchpad 2 at profit. Does HP have the resources to pull this - hell yes, but profit loosing project are not desirable by current HP management.... too bad/div>

They talk about cloning western drama movies and shows in general (vs creating original ideas), not specific to single subject of time travel..../div>
