This is just anecdotal, I know, but I don't see much scarcity in seating in today's megaplexes. Only a few blockbusters seem to sell out, meaning that very few higher-paying customers will be displaced.
It seems like the same logic Disneyworld uses in selling cheaper annual passes to Florida residents. You recoup the cost for your passes on the third visit, and they're making money because you're spending money on food, souvenirs and hotels several more times per year./div>
