    A few Bankruptcies will make IOT a lot more secure

    The Internet of things is simply a bad idea. Working in an area where security was essential we did EM sweeps to keep bugs out and never connected to the Internet. We used couriers to transfer sensitive information and kept the Internet separate from the networks where sensitive information was processed. .
    The Internet of Things is so insecure and provides so many avenues into your information, that it is a nightmare happening right before our Eyes. The answer is to make the technology safe by making its sellers legally liable for security breaches.
    Cars being hacked for assassinations is a simple and quick example things happening that require much better security. The people that allow communication with your equipment are held legally liable for both criminal and civil acts is the market way of making these careless bas**rds a little less careless. A few bankruptcies could make the IOT a lot better.

    Antibiotic resistance

    Bacteria mutate quickly. I presented with a specific antibiotic, bacterial mutations that are resistant to that antibiotic are favored. and you get antibiotic resistant bacteria that are favored. However, in the absence of those specific antibiotics the bacteria without extraneous functions (such as antibiotic resistance structural alterations) will be out-competed by non-resistant bacteria. The solution here is to take certain types of antibiotics out of circulation for a period, say 5 years and reintroduce them. If this is done cyclically then we will have ways to counter "resistant" bacteria.

    A little late for lawsuits

    Gulliver went to the Island of Laputa. so should we see a Suit from Jonathan Swift to all parties for stealing the idea of floating rocks?

    The original reason for patent and copyright

    In the US constitution
    article 2 section 8 (powers given to Congress)
    To promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts, by securing for limited Times to Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right to their respective Writings and Discoveries;
    First the authors(and artistic work) and Inventors are rarely able to reap any profits in the current system, so in my opinion the constitution is being violated by the current legal structure.

    The original time was 17 years the thinking was thus:
    A person needs enough time to recover the time money and effort to make an intellectual property, and a time of about 17 years or so is enough for anyone to make back the effort and incentivize new work.
    What happened is companies lobbied congress to extend copyright past any reasonable reimbursement for the work. To have an author set for life as the result of say two or three years work was not the intent.
    The intent is limited times to encourage arts and sciences. The longest possible limited time would be about 25 years and that would make back any long capital investment with profits.
    Disney is the biggest culprit in extending the copyright laws to ludicrous times getting copyrights extended to 100 years.
    Monopoly is against most parts of capitalism, so the limited times originally granted, worked well and returning to those limited times would serve to break up many of the large offenders to free markets, throug the free market process.

    The problem is basic economics. A place has to have something to sell in the first place. A service such as a Harbor,A manufacturer that transforms goods form raw materials or partially finished goods or perhaps agriculture, fishing mining or forestry. If there are more people than the local production can support, then the wages go down. If Walmart displaces local stores, then the people doing the actual production will keep more of their money and the people not producing should move. I have several times during my life when the local economy dragged.

    In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence.

    Who does and ndoes not deserve nonprofit status?

    Society of Automotive Engineers and United States Pharmacopeia (USP) are two organizations which it the same standards so they should loose non-profit status too. What About the National Geographic Society and AARP whose board members are self appointed and take in massive salaries and bonuses in lieu of profits?
