They should only have a popup saying the battery is old, causing reduced performance to prevent crashes from brownouts. Even doing will trigger people to sue, since it seems like people sue apple every time they change something.
If they gave you the option to continue at full performance, it will leave you with an opinion that Apples products constantly crash.
AMD ran into an issue with their 3 core CPUs that were actually 4 core CPUs. Some of the time, the 4th core was disabled due to a manufacturing defect (this increases yield). When people activated the 4th core that actually had a defect, their computer crashed more, because they happened to have one with a defect in a rarely used area, instead of a defect in a critical area that would make them re-deactivate the core.
They blamed AMD even when they said they wanted the 4th core at the risk of increased crashes.
You aren't breaking secret law, as the laws are available freely and you can access them at a time and place of your choosing just as long as you are current on the $5000 per law yearly subscription fee (other fees may apply, see your Law Sales Lawyer for details).
Even if you can't afford the $5000/law/year fee, you can always view the laws on the 30th of February between 2am and 2:01am at the Public Law Viewing Stand in the Armys artillery training target area (look for the center of a series of red circles).
It would ban paper shredders, data storage places(paper or datacenters) from having fire suppression systems that could potentially damage documents/data.
If you offer a product or service that touches documents or data and have anything even remotely in your control (fire sprinklers) that can render the data unreadable you are on the hook to provide a clean copy to the government.
