    Re: DRM, Like Microsoft

I've always said that while Microsoft, VMware, Kaspersky, Cisco, continue to make software I will continue to be gainfully employed. I mean, I've seen failures of basic math. If rotating logs use X amount of space and you configured the log partition to Y amount of space....then Y damn well better be bigger than X. This was on a 'preconfigured' appliance.

    Never allow 'automatic' withdrawls.....

I got burned by this once which is all that it took. Had an automatic car payment apply three times on the same day due to an 'error'. Reduced my checking account to below 0$, caused a dozen checks to bounce. Took months before it was finally cleared up.

    Re:

I gave up on UBIsoft after the Rainbow 6 debacle back in my PC days. Fast forward to today where EA/Dice has made Battlefield 4 a joke. I went to a console to avoid exactly what I'm running into every time I play Battlefield 4. My last 3 play sessions on the Xbox One consisted of:

Day 1. No sound in the first map you play on. Sometimes this resolves itself and the remaining maps you play on have sound. How is it even possible for something so broken to make it past QC.

Day 2. EA servers down?? All experience, levels, unlocked weapons, etc. are all reset back to zero. I view my Battlelog and it displays my level which rapidly decreases to zero. Don't dare play.

Day 3. Levels are back. I'm able to get into a server and play. I have sound now too. Crash to home screen. Restart. Starts loading me back into the server I was in. Crash to home screen. Hard reboot of the Xbox One to purge memory. Reload Battlefield and play for about an hour. Crash to home screen.

In each of the cases I finally put in COD:Ghost and played it. At least it works (for varying definitions of works...at least I'm able to play and it doesn't crash)

That's it for EA though. Won't be picking up any more of their games.

    Re: Re: Re: Re: Re:

I'll give you the counter point. I'm an ex-pc FPS gamer who moved to consoles for a fairly simple reason. All my friends use consoles for their gaming needs. And it's pretty simple why. When a new game comes out they stick the disk in the drive (and maybe install it...maybe not). Download any patches if needed...and play. No arcane drivers to download, no sacrificing goats to whatever video driver god you worship in hopes that a patch is available for you. It just works. Group chat works. Multiplayer matching works.

This has gotten me off the PC upgrade treadmill. Yes, my graphics aren't even close to a 'standard' PC. But I don't care. Yes we could all go back to PC gaming...which is really come a long way from when I played COD 1 and 2 on the PC. The problem is who ends up having to support my friends when the latest PC game isn't playing nice with their video drivers....or voice chat doesn't work with whatever server we are on...etc...

Frankly, I want to play video games. Not screw around trying to figure out why they don't work with my (or my friends) combination of hardware/software. I understand that this has gotten 'better' but it's not even close to 'stick the disk in and play'

    So how long...

Before they issue a DMCA to his ISP/web site provider for the video he has there. They've already shown they can shoot themselves in the foot...I'm guessing they go for full on headshot.

I doubt it's the IT staff that is incompetent. I'm more likely to believe this is a management issue where the IT staff is taking the 'blame'.

Sometimes doing the bad things pays better. And depending on how bad it is sometimes you can get the government to bail you out afterwards....

    Re: Re: But Honestly....

I can tell you why I switched to the 360. My less technically minded friends all have them. So when a new game comes out that we want to play...Gears 3 for example....we group up....drop in the disk...and play.

No driver updates. No hours spent tweaking. No weird command line additions. No upgrade treadmill.

Yeah, the graphics don't stand up to a 'modern' computer..and I can't install mods..but frankly...I don't care. They are good enough for the games we play. And as a bonus I don't have to spend any time trying to figure out why game X looks like crap on my newest wondercomputer...

After locating a solution to a obscure tech problem at work the new tech asked me how I found it. So I showed him the Google query I used...with the comment that in this business you are only as good as your last Google query....

Not to mention that planes are tough. The shoe bomber and underwear bomber could have blown a hole in the plane but it's unlikely they would have had enough explosives to actually have brought the plane down.

    Theater Experience....

If they can't be bothered to improve the experience then I can't be bothered to visit them. We went to Super 8 this weekend and this was our experience.

Arrived 5 minutes before the movie was scheduled to start.

Theater smells like old popcorn and butter...floor is sticky.

Sat through 10 minutes of slide show ad's with the most irritating music playing the whole time. Seriously...strangling cat bad.

Sat through another 10 minutes of previews which I don't mind...but each preview was followed by an ad that of course had the volume noticeably louder than preview.

Finally got to the movie. We were lucky this time...the theater was mostly empty so no ringing phones or idiot texters...

Re: Re: I'm delighted at this news

I think they deserved it. They went out and pissed off the most technically minded part of their customer base. Then they went after GeoHotz after that horse had left the barn and the barn had burned down...

I'm saying they deserved it and I have a Playstation 3. Luckily they didn't get my CC information.

Jeeze, how many movies can you make about vampires and werewolves playing with their food? That's what it's about right?

    Another 9/11?

Sorry, not going to happen. The days of passengers sitting quietly while someone takes over the plane to use it as a flying bomb are over. The TSA groping and scanning are just security theater..

I'll bet the dealership does....and I'm sure they will sell you one for a tidy markup. That also includes those wonderful 'special' tools needed for removing one lousy bolt that you can't reach with a normal socket wrench....
