In an interview, the editor of the paper said they preferred staying out of court because the court could have decided that all the data was secret and they would not be allowed to even use the copies. That is, the judge could have ordered him to not discuss the data, as the UK does not have a 1st Amendment like the US. He said he actually preferred having the hard drive destroyed as it did not keep him from reporting from elsewhere./div>
