Not too sure about this one. The only signatories to NAFTA are the US, Mexico, and Canada. I don't see the relationship to jobs scurrying off to Asia. I suppose you're setting out NAFTA as the scapegoat for all free trade agreements and there is much to be said for that. H. Ross Perot predicted the "giant sucking sound" of U.S. jobs vacuumed away to foreign lands and that has certainly come to pass. Another brilliant example of how the wisdom of the successful and experienced entrepreneur trumps the wishful thinking of academia every time./div>
" . . . all things considered, I don’t see anything out of policy." You sure this isn't Nuremberg testimony you're reading? Go back and check your notes!/div>
Wonder what the libel laws are in the UK. As the writer correctly points out and the Flynt court made clear, an obvious parady cannot be libel. Might be different in the UK, though.
That aside, I should like to share a strange anomoly. It has snowed heavily here in New England these past few days and on occassion I have taken a leak on the snow when feeling the urge outdoors. Strangely all of my urine patterns are in the shape of a large BIC pen. Go figure./div>
What if the teacher had been black? Same conclusion?
Someday, I would like to hear a Liberal define "racist" instead of just tossing the word about upon a whim. Anybody on the TechDirt staff care to take a shot at it?
Also here's a tip: Don't throw around the insult "stupid" so carelessly. It is known red flag indicating psychological projection, very much confirmed by this article./div>
No, that was settled in the Feist case long ago in a dispute over phonebooks. Facts are not "original" with the author as required by the copyright statute.
What if the student suffers from multiple personality disorder (MPD) and her second personality turned in the paper written by the first to the psychology professor? Would this make a difference?/div>
Why is stimulation of innovation even needed? We don't deny authors the rights to their books. We don't deny artists the rights to their paintings. An inventor is entitled to the rights to his invention solely because he created it./div>
There's not much use for patents when you can get cheap labor and underprice your competition. Now that Asia has opened up as a manufacturing center, companies like Jarden are shifting manufacturing operations there and pink-slipping their patent lawyers. Same deal in the 19th century, where the big companies didn't need the patent monopoly. they already WERE monopolies!
As far as "promoting innovation," I could care less. In my world a patent or copyright is to grant to someone what he has created, but if that's not good enough for you then why not take this collectivist theory further. It is well known that title to real-estate doesn't promote housing construction, so how about we take away all home ownership? In fact, let's not have ownership of anything? "Property is theft," right?/div>
This isn't making any sense. If the original patent expires, how does a minor improvement extend the patent term? The original molecule goes into the public domain and nothing stops anyone from making it. At least that's American patent law.
Does Indian patent law really allow you to extend the original patent?/div>
