The biggest problem with FOSTA and similar laws is that they use the bogus term "sex trafficking" to persecute the providers and clients of voluntary sex work by adults by making it sound like kidnapping and rape. It's an outrage that sex work is still banned or restricted at all.
There is nothing but selling of data here. *All media are paid for by their customers.* Meaning, if you're using a social-media site but not being asked to pay for it, you're not the customer. You're the product./div>
LOL. Facebook always has, and still does, analyze and use its members' data quite aggressively to support its side in politics. The only thing CA did that was different was to use the data to support Republicans rather than Democrats.
Anyone who has a problem with CA's actions but not with Zuckerberg's own is either hopelessly naive or a hypocrite./div>
If you actually read what the lady from Ofcom says, she is not suggesting that *all* message boards be treated as publishers -- only those like Facebook, which already engage in substantial "moderating". In other words, if you already censor then you have to do the whole job.
The Internet badly needs to continue to have uncensored forums, but the media giants -- including Google, Yahoo, Facebook, and Twitter -- seem determined to kill them off, and with them "hate speech" which is defined as any viewpoint to the right of Obama. Fuck that, and I'm glad the companies doing it are going to be burdened by this stupid law./div>
I would simply not carry any electronics when crossing the border. It'll be a lot harder for them to demand passwords when I can simply say I have no electronic accounts and there is no evidence around to the contrary./div>

This actually makes a limited amount of sense to me.
