I want to throw something out here for you as well, and you can call it semantics, I call it intellectual honesty..
Believe it or not, �piracy� (sharing of copyrighted materials) has existed ever since IP laws became a tool to create a legal monopoly over a given industry. That was the point it stopped being a free market tool, and became a government enforced racket. It is used to control information, ideas, art and even LIFE SAVING MEDICAL PROCEDURES! And who is enforcing these monopolies again, not just the gov, but DHS!! If this doesn�t set off some warning bells for a sensible libertarian or republican, I don�t know what would.
So what it comes down to is this.. do you support the government using a federal police force to control the dissemination of information? If your cool with that, why not just let them crack down on lemonade stands (tax free profits siphoned off of Big Citrus), farmers who don�t chip their cattle (tax free profits off of Big Brother), and farmers who chose to share seeds instead of buying them (siphoning profits from Big Monsanto)?
Do you see the slippery slope? Or are you too busy running straight for it?
You may disagree with sharing of music, etc, but do you really think we should set this dangerous precedent on dealing with the issue? Only a stupid liberal socialist would think that federal law enforcement is the answer to sharing a few bytes of music.
The elected government is in fact a small group of people... We get two choices, and run more as a republic than a democracy. Democracies let their light of freedom shine from a hill, not try to smother it with political threats, domain name seizures and chilling effects.
Lets be clear, Wikileaks, 4chan, Anon, they do not seek anarchy. They seek open democracies. They seek freedom and liberty. They see the way to do this as fighting secrecy and corruption, pain, and death. IE. the aristocratic federal government, banksters and the military industrial complex. Sounds pretty damn democratic to me. The �democracy� you seek is more readily available in North Korea or Iran�

ICANN just threw their last glimmer of independence out the window. Time to destroy the current DNS system and start a more distributed one.. hopefully one that doesnt have a single company controlling a majority of the domain names. We all failed on letting it get here in the first place..

Forgive me for sounding irritated.. I was simply trying to find out if you truely were looking for a conversation.. or just trying to start a flame war. A. It wasnt circular logic offered, it was an exact solution to the exact question you asked. You are just mad that some one had a response, thus proving that you did not know what you were talking about in the first place.
B. You are not looking in the wrong place for answers, you have gotten many answers to your first question, you just chose to ignore them.
C. They are affective because they choose to look people in the eye instead of facial scanning them from a little isolated room. They are affective because they do not waste time patting down 7 year old blond girls and instead choose to focus on people who might be actual credible threats. They speak to people to get a feeling for them, not just run them through a machine like cattle. If you ask for any citations on this, you are too dumb to google.
The point is, anyone seriously bent on causing harm could do it. Easily. Trying to go blow up an airplane these days is like trying to break into Fort Knox to steal a gold coin.. It could be accomplished much easier elsewhere. Reactive security (first ban razors, than liquids, now freaking toner cartridges???), is also incredibly ineffective.
I think you know what measures would be more effective, and the only reason I can figure out that you are so interested in defending our backwards and ultimatly pointless airport security procedures, is because you appreciate the human contact received when you opt out of the scanners... If its all the same to you.. lets just drop the airport groping, and ill give you free hugs for life instead. Its win-win for everyone!
That article is a joke. Pop Mechanics is an entertainment mag, dont confuse it with a serious journalistic source. That article was more of a white wash than the 9/11 commission report.

I live in said county.. cops here are dicks. not nearly as bad as Portland next door, but close. until they spend more time dealing with actual problems, like domestic disturbances, robberies, gang activity, and general people actually causing a conflict with someone else, let em get the finger.
we pay their salaries. im not paying you to pull me over, I am not causing any conflicts. mission creep seems to have gone from protect and serve, to police and suppress. hell. they wont even look you in the eye and talk to you like a real person.
I know they are not all like that, I have a good friend who is a cop, and he is a good one. fixes problem when he is on duty, doesnt go out and create them. would look you in the eye and try to understand why you are him are talking if something did even come up when he was on duty. sadly he is a rare form.
so until cops start protecting and serving again.. I see nothing wrong with giving them a little reminder that they are not doing their actual job anymore..
