    Re: Happen all the time

Maybe so, but in fairness, you didn't pay $100. You paid $600 spread over your contract with a $100 downpayment.

In fairness, This Hour has 22 Minutes hasn't been very good since the best original cast member, Rick Mercer, left the show years ago.
The original foursome on that show were funny and dangeriously smart.

Sounds like you've described my unsatisfactory relationship with my cell phone provider to a T. They've used the contract term as a way take advantage of me time and time again. Of course, if they'd just provided a good customer experience, I wouldn't be jumping ship when my contract is up next year.

And what's this about MS Office vs. Open Office? I have extensive proffesional experience with both (particularly spreadsheet work and document writing) and have to give OpenOffice the edge for my work. The OO spreadsheet tool in particular handles giant calculation sets much more smoothly and efficently, whithout locking me out of my computer completely while calculating.

There's a difference between owning a domain and cybersquatting. It's not illegal to own someone else's name as a domain, but it is illegal own it for the sole purpose of profiting at the expense (direct or indirect) of the named person/organization.
Therefore, Chris Bosh can be awarded those domains as personal property in lue of doubtful payment. He just can't take those names and squat on them after.
Of course, being the class act that Chris Bosh is (as any basketball fan knows already), Chris is doing the classy thing and giving those domains to their namesakes.

The moral issue may be a bit sketchy on the legal side of things, but cudos to Bosh for doing the right thing. Us Raptors fans have come to expect no less over the years.

Kate, if Lily Allen doesn't have enough education to do it right, then she shouldn't have put herself in the middle of this in the first place.

If I stated that "instead of scalpuls, we should use rusty chainsaws in hospital operating rooms," I'd be pretty damn wrong. But by your defence, it's okay for me to say that because I'm not educated as a doctor.
The fact is that I'm not qualified to give expert opinion on surgery any more than a high-school dropout is qualified to give expert opinion on advanced and rapidly evolving business practices.

Case closed, eh? One example where you perceive Canada's system to be inferior and the case is closed? To put it simply:
Canada is superior to the USA in quite a few ways. The USA is superior to Canada in quite a few ways. Both countries have strengths and weaknesses, and both can learn quite a bit by recognizing these as well as looking to eachother for ideas, advice, and support.
This comment, by the way, comes from a Canadian who considers himself lucky to have such generally awesome neighbours accross the longest unguarded border in the world.

Besides, when did the upholding of freedom of expression (no matter how disgusting that expression might be) become a bad thing? I always thought that freedom of speech was one of the founding principles of the U.S.

I have a friend who's done very well as an independent artist. He hires a tour manager when he tours, and he hires a record label-type business to do his marketing and distribution when he releases new work. All of the people he hires work on contract for a portion of the revenues from his tours, sales, and other uses (like a song on So You Think You Can Dance).
He has full creative control, and the people that have the skills to do what he can't make a fair and healthy living doing just that.
