I'm only half saying this to piss off all you authoritarians, but opposition to NN requires the higher brain cell count required of understanding long-term thinking and why the promise of NN is a fucking lie, which probably means people in opposition are at their jobs being productive instead of writing useless comments to the FTC. Really though, for trying to put the internet under the boot of regulators, you should all be ashamed, especially if you were around when it began./div>
C'mon, knowledge is irrelevant. Take a tip from the OP: just believe whatever some comedian tells you. at worst you can spend your days writing about how corporations are so evil b/c profit and the consumer and monopoly and RESISTANCE/div>
False, fake news. This was a fight between GREED, GOODNESS, THE POWERFUL, LITTLE CUTE PUPPIES, AND ISIS. Seriously, ISIS opposes NN, what are you a terrorist?/div>
You are so awesome dude. My point is that idiots like you are so mentally fragile, that you cannot even conceive of a rebuttal, because that would implicitly admit that there is another side to the issue. In response, your point is essentially "how can there possibly be another side to this issue?" Bravo sir, bravo./div>
I am going to say this in a manner that conveys the seriousness of the issue: bro, you are fucking KILLING me. "Freedom from" = a positive right. "Freedom to" = a negative right.
You can Google these basics terms. Is that an appeal to an authority, basic fucking English?
Again, in all seriousness, you are the worst./div>
Do you not see the problem there? I get you have a point about why you think regulation is good. i get it, you get off on regulation, that's swell, but that does not change the meaning of the word freedom. really i feel like even you can comprehend that./div>
Sir, you seem well-meaning, but you have no goddamn clue what the word freedom means. You can support or oppose a regulation on policy grounds, but you cannot simultaneously support coercion and freedom. Please read any book ever written on the social contract, theories of liberty, or political rights./div>
My generation is so coddled and weak that they cannot deign to acknowledge that someone might disagree with momma's precious darling, so instead it's also "a few corporations" and the money-grabbers in opposition. Question: do these people have a top hat, monocle, and Italian stash and are they clutching bags imprinted with"$" too?/div>
Is this a fucking joke? Hyperventilating about government intrusion into all kinds of areas and then not just welcoming it with openest of arms, but accusing others of being stooges for having the audacity to suggest that the internet should be free?/div>
Here's an even more novel idea: DON'T REGULATE THE INTERNET. Of course, since people make money off selling bandwidth, making them inherently evil, the idiots here will naturally find this notion offensive, if they understand it at all.
Of course, it would also be nice if we could force local governments to deregulate local zoning laws, which might allow for additional land-based connectivity and competition, but that would strip those idiots of what little power they have too. Then again, competition means more evil money grubbers, so naturally we should oppose that too./div>
This is probably because net neutrality is useless in the abstract - there is nothing written stone about the treatment of data packets. What matters is quality of service, which net neutrality heretofore has provided. If quality can be maintained with less than neutral data treatment, that is OK. This is absolutely the Netflix position and it would be the majority position if so many idiots were crusading for an idea they cannot begin to understand./div>
Two thumbs up for this comment. I am often appalled that a site that purports to be a serious news site can publish such garbage. The ad hominem attacks are tolerable, if completely childish, but the utter lack of substance in this "debate" is shameful. Net neutrality is more like a religion to people than policy. Those who disagree are just heretics.../div>
Right, EVERYONE wants FCC control over the internet. Obviously, there is no objection to the government regulating where there isn't even a clear problem, let alone one that won't work itself out on its own.
One has to wonder why we've suffered without regulation for this long! Oh, the depravity of unregulated internet!
Do you people hear yourselves?
It's one thing to make your argument and debate; quite another to deny there's any reasonable opposition at all.
Ultimately, as with so many other regulations, the benevolent regulators and their infinite wisdom will only end up serving the biggest corporations. Barriers to entry are raised and innovation is stifled as newcomers get shutdown for failure to ask permission before introducing new technologies or new services. This is why opposition from ISPs is lukewarm, at best. You are their useful idiots./div>
