I agree wholeheartedly that gouging their readers with a sharp stick and then telling them to go away if they don't like it is insulting and very, very unwise. Conde Nast, in my opinion, has a long history of elitism and snobbery. That their superior attitude led them to believe they were indispensable comes as no surprise. The bad will generated by this stunt is big enough to teach other publications not to abuse their readerships. They've become sterling example how not to behave.
