It would seem that many critics of this piece of legislation only really want to modify it to hold platforms accountable for speech that they (the critics) disagree with.
I definitely think Trump is a threat to American democracy, but removing liability protections for online platforms is not the right way to fight misinformation. All that ends up doing is placing an unduly burden on platforms to moderate their content. Furthermore, it's not actually illegal to spread misinformation*. I have a first amendment right to go out on the street and say that I think 5G does cause COVID-19.
