  But thats the catch now isn't it. You don't really need to worry about protecting your copyrights. Your brand sure, but the individual copyrights... especially in such an ecosystem as the internet where copying is, well to be expected.

  Moreso, how was that patent even issued, its perhaps the most basic taxonomy and yet its patentable? Then again here is Aus you can trademark a colour.

  I cannot agree more that technogoly and the internet has made me a better writer. Far better than say my english class back in school.
  
  It really comes do to, the more you practice it, the better you get. The internet is just a communications platform at the end of the day, and the easiest method of communication is through text.
  
  So we all write. A lot.

  Well, yes they are. You may not like it, but I'm afraid the internet kind of lives of this. Offering their content for free on p2p networks (making available) is comparative to giving up their distribution rights. They are making the content freely available.
  
  At the very least it can no longer be copyright infringement if the copying is authorised and therefore not infringement.

  I can't believe a company that is using the law to extort consumers has a fundamental misunderstanding of the law they are abusing.
  
  By getting the rights to distribute, and then distributing these files on p2p networks, they are thus legal to download.
  
  So then the settlement claims are illegitimate, and nothing short of gross abuse of the law. Which should be a crime in itself.
  
  But of course the scary legalese, double talk and rhetoric that no doubt fills these settlement claims is enough to scare people into paying. It almost sounds like paying off the mafia...

  Who leaks now anyway?

  on Rather Than Waiting For Someone Else To Leak Your Music, Why Not Leak It Yourself?
  If you music "leak" it, leak it to places you can utilise.
  
  Wherever it is you choose to leak it, there must be:
  A way to find out more about the band,
  Links to your major social media presences (twitter, facebook, myspace, etc).
  Links to MORE of your music.
  
  Which can be put in a text file alongside a torrent. But really, leak them onto your own website. Ask for them to be spread, WITH attribution. With links.
  
  It works for blogs. It works for music.
  
  But then, where not really leaking it at all now are we? And why wait for an album release to put out a new song?

  on Internet Filter Blocked Educational Sites, But Left Open Porn
  This has become perhaps the most unpopular piece of policy in many years. Every single respected IT, hell any technologically inclined person can not only see how a filter like this cannot work. They can also see the horrifying slippery slope it starts.
  
  Fact of the matter is, none of us are for it. The only reason it is still being pushed for is because "Senator" Conroy is trying to save face. I highly doubt they will get another term.
  
  Thankfully the internet sees filtering as damage and simply reroutes around it.
