  I have been reading Tech Dirt off and on over the last couple years and saw an article about my favorite crazy obsession Supernatural. I was kinda shocked it was here, but even Forbes has been tuning into it's inner fangirl over this last episode so I thought ok let's have a read.
  
  I found the article to be a bit dismissive and hipsterish in it's description of the show. The real theme of the show is family. Every person that I have asked to watch this on Netflix has become a fan, make and female. The fan conventions are heavily female but the audience for the show is not as skewed as you are making it out to be.
  
  Thompsons episode for the 200th was not thematically about fan fiction, that was a device he used to explore the themes about confronting your past and looking towards the future for our two main characters. To the contrary, he firmly drew lines between the show that is being produced and the show some of the fans have going on in their heads. He did it kindly and with great care and affection.
  
  As a long time fan of the show I kinda found your article a bit condescending and lacking depth. It could very well be that I come from a really biased place when it comes to talking about Supernatural. I freaking love this show. There are many good reasons why this show has survived so long and none of them have to do with squealing fan girls writing fan fiction.

  It is not just the Super Pacs that do not understand this. Just before I read this, I posted my blog. In it is yet another form letter from Senator Franken(d-mn) and my response. Clearly, Senator Frankin has drank the same Kool Aid. It is becoming obvious that nothing other than a full scale replacement of our elected representatives will eliminate this foolishness.

  Well when he loses his job, have one of our tech businesses hire him. Silicon valley has a lot of money. Invest in an independent web based self publishing model. Revamp and revive how this is all distributed. JMO.

  I would like an internet party that dealt most strictly with things that are pertaining to the internet and it's myriad of cultures, businesses,and social applications. What has happened in this country is that two ideologies have stalled us in a never ending game of Twister.
  Take out all the emotional stuff and work towards the rational. On the tech biz side, we need to evolve where Hollywood and RIAA won't. Create and support high profile avenues for artists to self publish and collect the money that they are actually due. Rather than force artists to get rations at the whim of a super pac. Revise how content is primarily delivered. This is the instant age. Make first run content instant. Yeah that might kill movie theatres, or not. A lot of people might still enjoy going to a theatre for a premiere. I however, after the last movie I went to with the 12 year old kicking my seat and talking all night would rather not. Make new content easy to find and reasonable to buy. Clean up copyright laws in a way that does not send every 13 year old to jail for 5 years as a felon.
  On the activist side, balance the needs of all parties to achieve a working model that NEVER infringes on free speech or rights to privacy. We have seen how vital it is to keep the web open for everyone without intereference from a government. Governments are unconcerned about gamers, bloggers, 9 gaggers or non profit encylopedias. We are. Lets protect the users first.Then lets evolve the web to it's actual potential.

  We need senators in Minnesota. Franken took a pile of money and won't listen. I have been writing back and forth for months. Even after it massively failed, he would not back down. Klobuchar did mildly back down, but after the fact.
  
  I like the idea of a MC Congress website in a way. Make one for senators as well.

  I have been saying it. The issue is exposure and availability. I see something that I like. I not only buy it, I buy tons more of the same things. "Piracy" = exposure = sales
  
  The wild disconnect that somehow this money will flow back in is likely false. If anything, the more you crack down on uncontrolled exposure, the more you will lose.
  
  This industry spends millions on exposure -I cannot understand why they don't get that.

  How patronizing. They name two bills in our govt with the word PIRACY in them. They publicly threaten our elected representatives if they won't stay "bought". When the web fights back with every resource it has, then we are somehow the bad guys. I am a fan of anon- I hope they hack every last one of those corrupt bastards. I hope they dox every email outlining the corruption that brought this to pass. Every one of the parties that bypassed our legal process to force SOPA and PIPA belong in jail.
